Ruben, I don't think that cur dog rumor was Cameron I think it was Dave Dean and the hammer dogs....the Cameron dogs don't show it anyway but the hammer dogs sure do.
I remember reading in full cry about hammer1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and so on but haven't heard any more...looking at the pics back then the dogs looked nice...

no one here talks about the mtn curs but I have seen some good ones.
There is a reason you are the only one that keeps bringing them up. WE DON'T SQUIREL HUNT!! This is a hog dog forum. I heard Dale Cameron bred a blue mtn cur to his best bluetick gyp about 25 years ago to improve his line of dogs...his dogs became famous after that infusion...and I also heard that he sent a few down south to florida...and all the bad bluetick genes have been weeded out so anyone can now breed a good hunting bluetick... WTH?!?! Someone crossed a Cur over their hounds to improve them???!!!!! HAHA. And all this time I thought a hound was supposed to make a cur better. well del cameron is a smart man...he knew he had to water down some of that hound blood because he wanted to catch a bear or a lion that day when he cut the dogs loose and not the following week...

Yea the looked OK ....not near as nice looking as the Cameron dogs. The hammer dogs had alot shorter ears and the few I hunted with chopped more than bawled ....made the rumor fit the hammer dogs in my mind as the Cameron dogs always seemed longer in the ear and overall houndier. On the other hand I see why cbk seemed defensive in his post as his dogs I believe have Cameron blood.

Ninja, Reuben hasn't had a dog of his catch a hog in over 2years. Now he's just trying to confuse everyone with hefty fibs. Heck, he would not even use Del's name, but rather used his first cousin's name to confuse us even more. His info is as faulty as it gets. Don't buy into it. On a side note, Ninja don't you owe us litter pics or something? Cough um up! back in the eighties it took a while to see the light and get some good dogs...thought it would be easy the second time around...been more than 2 years and might be another 2 years before I get something I like...good dogs are hard to come by...I am hoping on this pup of mine...he looks good at 4 months old... Reuben, for the record, I think you will pull it off eventually. Cutter, Im afraid to show that litter off! They may not turn out to be anything. Its the 1st litter of pups I have raised in 16 years. The dog is a good one and a good producer but this my bitches 1st litter. She has the breeding behind her but you never know with an outcross.

thanks...I hope he makes it too...he seems like he will make a decent hog dog but I am hoping for a real hog dog. but I think he will cross over good with a busher sam bred omcba gyp...Busher sam was a bad to the bone mtn cur dog but the rumor is he was half plott... Texas Smoke was another very good mtn cur and the rumor was that he had walker blood. He was one of my favorite mtn cur dog to get pups from. I started with a kemmer gyp and a 3/4 Texas Smoke gyp and bred from those 2 but mainly concentrated on the Smoke side because they hunted harder and wider, faster on track, lots more grit and quieter on track. but these dogs would catch a hog quick or run it for hours to bay it if needed...I believe it was the hound in them that made them excel.
