I am interested ing getting a catch dog. Now with that being said, I can not get a Pitt. I have seen to many bad things that breed has done first hand. I am not judging, now what other breeds would be a good choice? Thank you.

Most of the pit's you have heard about are "hood bred" pitts Afro. you can take a chance and get a random pit catch dog from some unheard of guy and yes he does have a chance that he could be aggressive, hell ALL dogs can be aggressive. its not so much the pit as it is the breeder. some dogs are bred to fight but i have also seen a couple well bred mannered pitbulls that you could tackle and punch in the face and they would just sit there. a pit has just as much chance of turning on you than a bulldog, staghound, or a chihuahua Grin

I use a Bull Terrier and also Dogo/Mastiff but to be honest the Bull Terrier is more bully headed then majority of pits I've been around.

Logan, explain "turn on you" for me ...?  I have fooled with all kinda dogs over the years and many bull breeds and trianed all different kinds of dogs for a living at one time and never had one turn on me.

Well you say your wanting a catch dog but before i answer I will ask how do you intend to hunt the dog will he be led in to the bay ,run on the ground ,or dumped from a truck or atv and what types of terrain do you hunt all them factors will help decide what breed and size catch dog will best suit you and the way you hunt

I don't understand really.... I have Game Bred pit bulls and they are probably the nicest dogs I've ever owned... get one from someone who breeds just Game Bred pitbulls who is reputable, and has high standards as conformation, No Aggression, and are tried and true for hog hunting. My Male Snooty/Eli  Bred loves kids, the only time he barks is if I'm inside and someone tries walkin on my property, as soon as I come outside and tell him "its all Good" I can unclip him from his chain and he will lick that person to death. Me personally don't want another type of dog caught on a hog , just my preference.. Its all in the handler in eyes.

maybe "turn on" wasnt what i was aiming for, more like snapping at you, growling, etc.

I hav a lil 40 pound pit and she's hell on wheels wen a hog is around. But she is very well mannered I just got her not long ago she'll sit, roll over, and fetch. She's the most well mannered dog I've ever had. I've always had a pit around for 3 years now and never had one that was aggressive to me or anybody. But there arp ther breeds like American bulldogs, dogos, and there are curs, catahoulas, and ridgebacks that are straight catch but I'd rather use a pit, AB, or dogo Cus they are more dependable.
