I have my lacy but he is a proven blood tracker and worth more that way to me so i dont wanna take the chance of something happening to him im Looking for what type of dog would be best to run some trap lines with! Just something that would fight a from a mink possum coon to the occasional coyote? Way bred do u think would be best for this? Not looking to spend much money on a dog either cause it really just something for fun!

Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat.

A 22 handles trap running real nice. A thick tree branch works in a pinch too. Grin

It's not about killing the animals but more about watching 2 good animals tango!

Yeah, just messing with you. I would guess a pit or pit cross but never used a dog running traps because I did not want to mess up the skins.

well just for company is about all  lol . but we used to use drags attached to the traps for open field and trail trapping and a dog to help locate the critter after it was caught and drug the trap till it hung up in some brush is about it  .

That makes sense and your right Justin the fighting trapped critters part shouldn't be mentioned.

My grandfather was a government trapper for 18 years. No tell how many miles he walked hunting a coyote who had run off with a trap. As I got old enough the job fell on me. Aways knew want was up when his old truck was parked outside the school waiting on me to get out. He came up with a black & tan rat terrier, think the only one I've seen. This dog rode in the cab of the truck so that his scent wouldn't get on the traps in the back. He would sit in the seat, if he smelled or heard a yote in a trap he would put his front feet on the dash. At that point we would just let him out and he went straight to it. Will never forget this little rat terrier nose to nose with a yote, barking and growling. He always waited till we shot before pounching in the middle of the yote.
