Where do yall go on vacation?  Im wanting to take a small 3-4 day vacation, needs to be within a one days drive from SE Texas, and not cost an enormous amount.  Let me know if you have been some where that you liked and would go back to again.  Probably looking at going sometime in May.

We talked about Wimberly and areas of the like but I want to stay some where semi-private and all the cabins I have found to rent werent very private.  I should mention that my wife will be about 7-8 months pregnant at the time and we are just looking for a good spot to chill out and take in some nice scenery.

Fredericksburg and cabins can be as remote as you want them.  I love it down there.  Spent my honeymoon there and love going back.

Matt, I agree with Peaches. Get with JP and see if there's any place to stay a few days in the Vanderpool area. You talk about pretty country... maybe he can take y'all on a tour of some of those private ranches out there.

Drive out to Apline and take the river road along the rio grande, prob best drive in texas and very few people and great scenic views, or take a truck and trailer full of horses and ride down to big shell on the  60 mile 4x4 only road, its secluded and you need 4x4 with tow straps and extra water and gas, or just go up to Fort Worth and take in the stockyards and all of the horse cowboy stuff around it, lots of people go down to port aransas or rockport before school gets out and too crowded.  I would hit every bar bee que or seasfood place i could going and cominglol

Congrats on the kiddo! They are a blessing! We like South Padre island! It's great! It will probably be secluded right before spring break... But idk if your pregnant wife will want to be on the beach. Females are picky when they are pregnant! Lol! It's by far the best beach in Texas!

This is all good info guys keep it coming!  Yeah Purebreed we have done the Fredricksburg trip several times and always like going out there, it is nice and we always have a good time, just looking for something a little different.  I have never been to Port A but I think if we do the beach thing we may just drive to Pensacola, it is about 8hrs but at least you get some real beaches in FL.  We also are leaning towards something like a cabin in the hills only cause most arent kid friendly and we can take a family trip to the beach later on.  I guess I need to call JP and see what he knows of that might be available to rent a few nights.  I have always wanted to go to the Palo Dura canyon or Big Bend but those areas don't really offer the type of lodging that I am looking for that I have been able to find.  Treeingratterrier that river road sounds NICE!  We bought a new camera recently and my wife loves photography, I can imagine there are plenty of good photo opportunities on that road!

Matt,
I've got a family friend with cabins out on the James River just outside of Mason. Supposed to be private, good fishing, and scenery.

That said,  I don't think I've ever seen a prettier piece of Texas than the Vanderpool ranch that JP hunts...

I was going to suggest the Broken Bow, OK area as well. Have never stayed there, but have gone trout fishing down that way and it is some real nice looking country.

Also not sure where you are in TX as to say whats a day drive, but from here in Ok, my wife and I enjoy Eureka Springs, AR. Lots of little shops in town for the ladies to check out, with some good places to eat as well. And there is some good trout fishing on the White River, or striper fishing on Beaver Lake. Really pretty country in general. There is a place a few miles out of town with some really nice cabins that we like to stay in.

Another place I have never been but have heard is really nice is Hot Springs, AR. Thinking about trying to make a trip over there one day.

There is a place just outside of Kerrville called the koyote ranch. They've got cabins to rent and RV hook ups, gas station and little store with some good food. Not to far from town and about 35 or so miles from vanderpool.
