Hey everyone. I just wanted to give this section a start by showing you a Fallow deer that I took last summer. A fallow is something I never thought I would see up here in the piney woods. So when I had the chance to harvest one, you bet I took it. I still have the pelt, although I have to confess that I still haven't gotten it tanned. It's still just sitting in a vacuum sealed bag frozen. I wanted to pick everyone's brain with this post also. With the unusually heavy rainfall we have had in Texas this year, the general thinking seems to be that this should be a banner year for deer hunting. I know I am personally looking forward to it with great anticipation. Not so much because of the possible heay horned deer this year(although I like the thought of that also), but because I will have a new place to hunt this season that I know to have a good deer population. In any case, I was just wondering what all of you think the coming deer season holds for us. Any thoughts??

I'll tell ya Clay, it wasn't too bad. The meat is much darker. It will never replace whitetail as my favorite venison though. Of course I have never tried Axis. Oh, and you forgot to tell me what you think about the coming season...

Sean,
I think it will really be a good season as for as horns are concerned but finding or seeing the deer will be another story.  If we have a nice early cold snap and a good rut, which we havn't had in a couple of years then I think some deer will be shot that will shock everyone.

Tuskbuster,
Are those all Oklahoma deer on that wall?  Very nice examples of what mother nature can produce.

I think the problem is going to be getting the deer to come out of the woods cause there is gonna be a lot of mast crop and browse. The horns are going to be great though.
