Picked up a lil spot to hunt close to home a few days ago and finally took a stab at it tonight. I am a over cautious pansy sometimes when it comes to property lines and dogs... so I made a decision to only take my new girl "salt" and my catchdog Carlos. I was all by myself& that alone gets me a wee bit cautious, so when I got across the pasture to the woods and realized I left my phone in the truck I got real nervous and turned back to go grab it. I got all of 3 steps when I heard Salt start to let em have it! I thought oh crap! I better catch this one and head to the house. Checked the garmin and she was only 80 yards away so I went to 40 and let Carlos go. I was hot on his heals when I see Salt zoom past me with Carlos caught up ahead. Got the sow tied with the stupid Carlos making her squeal the whole time broke him loose then heard a distant bay. 400 yards to the next one and once again I got within 40 let Carlos go and soon as he hit, She bolts again. Another good sow, another fight with Carlos and another distant bay. I head to this one but decide to leave Carlos lashed to a sapling. I went all the way in and it's a dang boar! Not a big one, maybe 150 but still. I watched her bay for 10 minutes or so and finally determined he didn't have much teeth so I hissed her in and got him caught. I did make sure to grab her at the same time and got her on a lead. Tied him, barred him and let him loose, walked both dogs back home and put them up in just over an hour and a half from starting. Really proud of this lil lady and can't wait to try this place again.

Sounds about right T... Producing pork on her own like most hog dogs should! Love hearing about the young dogs showing out. How rough is she?

She ain't actually rough, maybe a lil "gritty"? She only seems to grab ear when I reach to leg. If she's with my bosses thom's dogs she may get in the mix a bit earlier but even still I hear bay till she sees me walk in. she has a high desire to please.
Trenton- I ain't worried about it, I don't like hunting at night solo, lots could happen.

Good deal T-Bob....It's good see see another guy that's cautious about going it alone. In my book, that's not 'skeerd', that's being 'wise' ....big difference. With age comes wisdom......remember that young Trent......from one of the old farts!

Salt is a cross out of my Ike dog and van dorns girlfriend dog. As I am campaigning I do not have time time hunt. T Bob has made a good friend to me so I sent him two young dogs and ask him to expose them as much by there self as He could knowing they would make great dogs. Me taking them behind finished dogs all the time just was not doing them any justice. Salt had an accident litter on her first heat only got a few to live. They are running loose in my yard and are he'll on wheels.

Glad you saw this one Chance, I didn't want to call and wake you up after getting in last night. Gotta be careful, those liberty county secret service agents might come knocking on my door for pestering the candidate

Shes a secret family recipe, but it ain't even my family. She is a pleasure and honor to hunt though and while I can't and don't claim any responsibility for her abilities, I will gladly continue to benefit from her talents

I hope you win what a great way to pick up hunting properties, "hey Mr Farmer, I'll grade you road if I can hog hunt you place!".I think I'll run in my county next year, I'll be able to hunt the whole county. Next time I go through Liberty county I'll pull up all your opponents campaign signs. Haha!

Or the least better strike while the irons hot!! He has got some real good ideas for that county and while I don't live in his voting area, all it takes is a drive off the beaten path in liberty county or watching the evening news even to KNOW that now is the time for a man with integrity and frankly, balls, to step up and take leadership seriously in that community. Too many people have looked the other way for far too long as a county with some incredible talents and resources, both natural and human, has been squandered away to the lowest dregs of society. A community who used to produce hard working men and women who lead the way in their various fields of endeveour now boasts one of the highest drug and violent crime rates around. He's got some real work cut out for him, but one thing I respect about him is his perverbial sharp axe and a good shovel. Vote Ward for county commissioner precenct 3... He's the best Chance ya got!
