Again, I'd like to see the numbers... I doubt, as incriminating as those numbers may be, that the "draw down effect" of the illegals is the predominant contributing factor to our declining economy...

I don't have any numbers but I do know that if someone comes to this country illegally, they get paid under the table. That means they do not pay income taxes, social security, or medicare. But they drive on our roads, their children attend our public schools (its law in Texas that any child legal or not can attend public school), they recieve medical service and can get food stamps that are all paid for by law abiding American citizens through money taken out of our paychecks. And because Texas has a huge border to Mexico, they are pouring in.

 I also do not blame people for wanting a better life for themselves and their familes. But please do it legally and pay into the system like everyone else. Its hard enough on people to have to support their own families in this economy much less supporting illegal imigrants as well.

I haven't read all the posts but have read a few...but I probably will pi$$ off a few...

if the truth be known everyone here comes from somewhere else...me being hispanic probably means at least half my ancestors were here way before the majority here can claim for themselves...but to me it is not about that...and some like to say, if you can't speak english you don't belong here...blah blah blah...Well, as a kid I knew bohemians, Germans, who could barely speak english and from what I have seen most if not all hispanic kids born here prefer to speak english...the parents that came from mexico can barely speak english but they give it a good try...but from what I have seen the third generation will speak english and they very seldom speak spanish unless speaking to an elder that can't speak it well...and my bet is that this is exactly how it happened with all other races...but that is small patatoes and it is the kind of talk that you will hear from the small minded...

I do believe that at some point in time we need to shut the borders down and stop letting folks into the USA...We are like a big ship that is taking on too many passengers and we are about to sink if we don't make the required changes now...

The USA has been a leader and we have a very high standard of living compared to other parts of the world...

Picture 2 big barrels that are side by side and they have an equalizing line at the bottom and one at the top to break the vacuum. The full barrel represents the USA's standard of living and the empty one represents other third world countrie's standard of living...Open the equalizing lines between the 2 barrels and our standard of living starts to drop...and the empty barrel increases...we meet in the middle and we are screaming because our standard of living is dropping off but the third world countries are rejoicing and tickled pink because theirs is improving...they now drive cars and not bicycles...and now have central heat and air...wow...

Our economy suffers for so many reasons...I do not know the answers but do have my theories and opinions...

We want to stop the mexicans from coming over but these guys work twice as hard and don't complain and they work for less money...As a small business owner one would take notice...You ask a third generation US born employee to do a task and they balk and get pi$$ed and say it is not their job...BLAH BLAH BLAH...almost like these guys have a union card and pay dues...and then we wonder why so many companies want to go to other countries to start a business or to move their business there...

Oh and another thing...we take bids on our house for repairs and the construction company wants $75,000 dollars for repairing a 100,000 dollar house when complete and then this other fly by night company has nothing but illegals working for him and that company bids $35,000...so who get's the job...Our income is like a pie...everyone wants a piece of it and there is only so much to go around...let me see...do I buy a new truck for me or a new car for the wife??? can I afford to go hog hunting twice a week or once every 2 weeks...Oh I have utities bills to pay, cell phone, internet, house payment...etc...etc..

And then we don't want to buy american because the pie only has so many pieces so we buy chinese and mexican products...

So our economy is sinking further....

Then we do not want to drill or run that pipeline from canada so the price of fuel keeps going up...true we might be polluting but we must look at the big picture...we need to drill while we make natural gas the next big energy source for driving and powering america...not only because it is a cleaner fuel but because it is plentiful here...this fuel makes the most sense and not ethonal or even fuel pruduced from algae...but it creates jobs and it could be something to continue to research and improve on...

So we do not want to drill for oil but china and india are industrializing and they need more oil because they are switching from the footmobile and bicycle to drive cars and trucks...but the pipelines are not getting bigger in the middle east to increase production (SUPPLY) to meet the demand but the demand is going up...when demand goes up the price goes up...and whoever can pay it gets it...china and india are closer to the middle east than we are...I just hope that china and india are dependant on our economy...because if they don't need us and they can afford 10 dollars a gallon we are screwed and tattoed...just sayin...

so are we going to be stupid or be forward thinkers and do the right thing...

So the economy is still sinking...

Then we have these welfare programs that some never worked for and yet they get all the benefits...and a citizen that was born and raised in the states has paid in to the system religiously for as long as he has worked and he has worked for 30 years and all of a sudden bad luck strikes...and he gets hurt and disabled but he does not qualify for government help because he owns his house and has a little money put back in the bank...so he is not elgible for help until he exhausts his money and agrees to give up his house to the government when he and his spouse pass away...

the welfare programs are great but they are set up for people to want to stay in that rut...need to have it set up to help people out of that situation and become contributors to the system and not takers...but the system should be there for those who truly need it...

it is going to get to the point where the working folks are going to be so taxed that they just might be better off getting on that taker plan just to get a few days off now and then...cause there standard of living is getting taxed/exhausted....from paying for all those that can't work or don't want to work...

We can fix social security, welfare etc etc...there are solutions...heck I could write the rules in one day and maybe tweak on them now and then but we would be moving in the right direction...which is getting folks to work even for the welfare check and drug test them just like any other job...unemployment...no problem...but you will work for your check...sounds pretty easy to me...

So we can talk about illegal immigration...and yes we need to fix it...but it is a minor fix...when comparing it to the grand scheme of things...

We tend to get tunnel vision and look for scapegoats or the easier things to fix...true even the smaller things add up...and left alone can only get worse...

We need to multitask and to fix our country...



 

Also have so much red tape here to start certain businesses so they move...

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that so much of this and there won't be enough jobs in the USA to go around...

I had a kid who had been here since he was a baby who worked for me and was good so i talked to a lawyer about getting him permanent residence card so i wouldnt get fined she said if i got caught it is only 250.00 fine in reality. I couldnt believe it it was all over the news how they were making the penalty so tough... but it was only on paper  I looked into it a little more and found, even  most of the republicans only make a show about border security. They want em here. any talk from them about punishing business for hiring illegals wont be enforced unless the business doesn't do what the gov wants in another area then its a weapon. I wish no illegals were here but if the gov wont get serious about it. might as well work the good ones at least their not meth heads and they aint going home they are here because the gov wants em here. Thats the attitude of  elected gov. now days. who cares what the people want. Its all about what the un wants ,screw the people of America. AMERICAN GREED is why we have such a big problem with illegals,our goverment,politicians set the cost of our so called STANDARD of living.for us to supply them with their SOL,for doing nothing i mite add,and for the work force to keep up with our own SOL,we have to raise prices on food ,housing,utilities.BUT,when the gov.makes it easier for companies to lower their production cost ,outsourcing work to forein countries,hiring illegals that will work for half of what it takes a LEGAL worker for to pay his bills.
  american workers are NOT accustomed to eating and living and commuting 11 or 15 people to 2 room house and 1 vehicle.we spend all our $$$$ right here in the good ol USA,not takin it and shippin to another  country.
  i worked hard all my life ,started when i was 15 ,52 now, to keep what i have HERE.home that i built ,had new vehicles(no more). built  my own constuction company over those yrs. only to have most of it taken away by OUR system.when builders and project managers say we cant pay your price on a bid because we can get it done for half the price ,and make a higher profit margin cause you know they arent makin any less for their services,whats a person to do .well they say hire you some illegals,OVER MY DEAD BODY.

X2 I definately agree with the people in jail part of this!! Why let the tax payers dollars feed an house the criminals for years an years. The way I see it those guys may not have the easiest life in there but at the same time they have no bills three hots an a cott most of them have access to television an they can get an education all free of charge!! Very few politician, R or D, care to solve illegal immigration.  It is actually rather simple.

Go to Seattle and you will find illegal immigrants.  Travel a short distance to Vancouver and you will find none.  Why?  Because Canada penalizes any employer who employs an illegal immigrant.  In other words, they have taken away the economic incentive for an illegal immigrant to be there.

I have dual citizenship and I am currently on my third passport in 20 years. You should know how many pages are on a passport.

I had the chance to go to the Saudi, Kuwait, and Egypt in 1986. I was 10. Very few people spoke English, As we had to travel with an English to Arabic Interpreter.

Every time I step on a flight back "Home". I realize that with all its problems, This still is the greatest country on this earth!

Iv traveled through asia, europe and the middle east, from kuwait, quatar, iraq, afghanistan, pakistan, dubia, saudi, germany, holland, england, ireland, bosnia, japan, korea, tiwan, thiland, guam, the phillipenes and wow, a lot spoke broken english.
