No downside to tattooing. Zero recovery and a very simple do it yourself process.

Freezebranding a very underutilized tool. Needs to be someone that has experience or can look ugly for life. Alot if variables and wouldn't recommend trying yourself for the first couple times. But a great tool non the less. Just make sure you plan on keeping the dog forever ....or everybody will have your brand running around visibly.

Prices range on branding.
$10 buck to $35 a piece is what I have seen lately.

Might also consider paint branding as well. Very cheap, visible and temporary and can do it yourself.

If ur brand is simple a freeze brand is not hard. Have the brand made by someone. I made mine from 1/4 in brass stock. Put the brand in liq nitrogen, or dry ice and denatured alcohol  solution. Soak the brand until it ices up about half way up the handle. Have an area on the dog shaved and brand away. It will scab up then start to regrow hair after a couple weeks. But like they said before it's permanent but u will spot ur dog from a distance if ever needed. As far as paint branding it's pretty simple. Make a stencil, hold it to the dog and spray him. The stencil can even be ur brand if u have one and u can use a variety of colors. Safety orange is my favorite cause i can get it from work......uhhhh at a discount Cheesy

Another way is to make your brand out of sucker rod. Go to dollar store and buy some black hair dye. "The Black and Beautiful"  works the best.  Lol.

No kidding. Will last up to 5 months in and out of water.  Just might get some crazy looks when you purchase it and your blonde.  Grin

Never have tried spray paint. Gotta get opinion on someone who has used it for durability.

The hair dye is very visible and is extremely durable for an extended amount of time. Your usually out about five bucks.

I've never used hair dye. Honestly never thought of it. I've only ever painted my dogs when I'm hunting with a group of people or a tournament. The upside down marking paint will get u thru a couple days of hunting. As far as how old a dog has to be before freeze branding I've never branded a dog under a year because I wasn't sure til then if he was gonna stay.

Agree with PLP.

Dont freeze em till your sure they are gonna stay.

To apply the hair dye. Make a brand out of sucker rod or wood. The. Just pour the hair dye gel in a plastic plate. Spread evenly and dip the brand into it. Then just stick it directly to the area you want the brand on.

A tip is do it on a good sunny day and keep dog leashed alone and standing until it dries or they will lay down or rub against others before it dries. Usually will last from 3 to 6 months under normal hunting conditions.

I never thought of hair dye! I was just about to ask ya how long it lasts too. Some are 'permanent' but that's on people, lol.
That's a clever idea.....Thanks for posting the pic up too yellowblackmask....

I've only ever made and used brass brands for freezing. I just don't think steel would hold the cold long enough to get it done.
