Don't want to offend anybody but I've noticed a lot of frequent dog trade post by the same people. I expected to see litters of puppies but are they're really that many good hog dogs out there? Again new to this and just curious

There are SOME good ones but if you are buying...get some type of a 5 or 10 day trial. JMO

I'd venture to say that over 90% of all finished dogs that are on the dog trade are culls.  I'd go a step further and say that 90% of all the dogs being sold as started haven't seen more then 5 woods hogs.

Do your research.

And put a price and pics! No one is gonna buy something they can't see.
"Started"- barked at a hog
"Finished"- was with some other dogs when they struck

Trials are a waste of your time and gas, go see the dog hunt in the woods and if like it but and if not keep looking.

Believe what you see and part of what you hear.

I support show and tell in the woods.

I think I'm with Mr.Mason on this one... I'd rather see the dog hunt with it's owner first... I don't think I'd be taking a dog that doesn't know me from Bob into the woods expecting it to do it's thing 100% right off the bat. IMO, it takes a little bit of time for a new dog to get aquainted to a new owner.

agree on watchin the dog/s work in the woods first. can someone answer me this, why is you see a price on a dog, you ask for a trial and the price goes up? is that extra money gonna make the dog/s hunt better or is it a scam to say, pay me more to prove my dog will back what i say it will?

I totally agree with everyone hunt the dog and most are culls and people will ignore you when you ask to go hunting.
but everyone on here saying when people say started dogs havent seen but 5 hogs scares people into not buying dogs off the trade and for people that have actually put the time in to dogs makes it hard to sell and drives the price way down. I have a dog for sale now that i cant get 250 for and she has been on over 100 hogs in the woods just doesnt fit my style and its because everyone bad talks to everyone and scares others from even trying dogs.

Not an attack on anyone just an opinion

I would contact some of your hunting buddies... Better to hand it off to a friend that will hunt it, and then you can see how it turns out... Well rather than selling it and losing money. Or just ask one of your friends if they want to buy it for little less than you'd be asking on the board. If you have serious dogs, and people know that you get on hogs then you are more likely to sell your dog IMO... If you only have post about aquiring dogs, or have this dog for sale now, or that dog for sell now, then yes, no one is going to take you serious. So IDK why you can't sell your dog, but it is probably because people are starting to use their heads and buy from proven stock rather than some Joe Blow Smoe. Not saying your dog isn't proven by any means, but just an example on the way I think all that works. JMPO

If a dog is worth it's weight, itl never hit the dog trade because your huntin buddies will be lined up for the dog.  If they're not, chances are it ain't worth what you're asking.

Oh i understand but the truth is there are only about 3 people that hog hunt around here that i know and i wouldnt sell them anyhting if you know what i mean lol skin and bones. I have good dogs and will take anyone hunting that wants her just one of those deals man I sold her sister for 500 last year and this dog is better. From my experience the best 5 dogs i have ever seen not a single one came from a high dollar blood line or proven parents. So to me thats a load of bs Just cause your parents where pro athletes doesnt mean you will be.

If you're going to pay hard earned cash for a dog, I would want to see it hunt AND have a trial.  Some dogs no matter how good just won't perform for another person.  If the seller is legit, he/she shouldn't have a problem returning your money if you end up with a product you're unhappy with.

Me personally...no amount of money is worth someone running about saying that I sold them something less than what I represented.  The few dogs I have ever sold weren't sold with a trial per se, but the buyer and I had an agreement that if they weren't happy at any time for any reason I would buy the dog back.  Simple as that.  Then again, the few I have sold I was very selective on who I sold to, and knew the character of the person I was dealing with.

Many years ago I used to judge alot of bird dog field trials. One of the things I noticed is this. Many of the guys in Texas thought they had to send off to Tn, Ga, Al, or Fl to buy a dog. The guys from Tn, Ga, Al, and Fl, went to Texas to get their dogs.

I had the opportunity to judge many of the dogs I read about in the American Field (bird dog weekly magazine). If you read the ink on some of them you would think they could run all day and point every bird in the county. Hardly, I was really surprised that many of them were not good dogs at all. In fact I personally owned meat dogs that could find more birds than these hot shot dogs.

There is no way I would pay big money to some guy I don't know for some dog I have never laid eyes on. I would not even consider one of the hot shot bay pen dogs because lots of those are just used to play a game. They could not find a hog in the woods if their life depended on it. Some of the field trial birds dogs were exactly the same way.

Example: Betcha if the folks on "Hogs Gone Wild" bred or sold any of their dogs they would be higher than a cats back. Would you even want one of them if they were free??

I agree with most of yall that most if not all the dogs on the dog trade are culls and the people selling them dont have the stomach to do the right thing by culling the dog, instead they want to pawn their worthless dogs on someone else and they dont loose a wink of sleep doing it too. These types are scum IMO. I sold a dog not too long ago without a trial for a pretty good chunk of money, but the fella came to hunt with her and all it took was 1 hunt. He is happy with his purchase so far, I didnt talk up the dog she proved herself to the fella and thats what it takes to sell a dog. As for trials, I will never give one because hate to say it but folks nowadays are dishonest scam artist.
