well my buddy has bought four different "very well started" dogs on here and i can say that not one will bay a hog AT ALL!! BEWARE OF A DOG SELLER IN COOPER TX!!! He owns his own business and thats all i can say or they said they will press charges on us for ruining their names.. IMO if you are saying we cant bring your name up then your dogs aint worth a SH!*!!!!! Just warning people!!!

Don't cry or bad mouth if you didn't try the dogs first....this is something I just can't understand, you try and it don't work you don't buy...easy as that keeps all honest. It seems the "got to have it now" folks are the ones who always seem to get the horn by the jockeys. If you take the time and do your home work you won't get screwed...

This is kind of what I figured. I had no idea some people try and charge over a 1000$ for a dog that isn't registered top of the line...and even then that's too much IMO. Then again all mine were free. They don't hunt 2miles away but they don't sit around either...tbh I wish my gyp would stay closer. If they're really worth that I would think they would be considered priceless to most owners? Again I don't know too much about all this yet and I don't make a living doing it either...just my two cents

If a dog is worth it's weight, itl never hit the dog trade because your huntin buddies will be lined up for the dog.  If they're not, chances are it ain't worth what you're asking.

I agree with 99% of your posts 99% of the time but for me this is not the case. I have had 2 dogs in the dog trade the last 2 weeks, ill guarantee you that neither are culls....both of them are  sold pending funds.....i honestly can say that I have 1 true hunting buddy that is serious about his dogs and actually got me into the sport 8 years ago......i have friends that do but they are fair weather hunters and dont understand that you gotta spend a little coin occassionally to catch hogs......the dog trade helps me a ton.

Did u read the dog trade policy?...seems like advice and good advice at that. Not trying to rub you the wrong way but 4 dogs...i hope they weren't very expensive if he bought all four at once from someone he didn't know. Then again I hope he would catch on after he got burned the first time and for sure the second but four times Shocked Id be more pissed at myself for. Again not trying to start a argument about something I'm new too

If you're going to pay hard earned cash for a dog, I would want to see it hunt AND have a trial.  Some dogs no matter how good just won't perform for another person.  If the seller is legit, he/she shouldn't have a problem returning your money if you end up with a product you're unhappy with.

That there is a very good point!!! If they are legit they should stick by their word... and if you didn't like the dogs take em back and give you back your money. Do more research on dogs and their owners/breeders before you buy! This is just ANOTHER example of what NOT to do... AND why I have started pups!  Wink  Grin

LC, I think that he was asking about age not because of "what you know" or don't, but because of the way you reacted to his comments and of course getting got on not only A dog, but 4... Getting older and getting screwed over go hand in hand... having the knowledge to know what's what and what not to do definitely come with age. Right when you think you know your chit, something will come and humble you... trust me on this one. (using you as a general term)

And I'm not trying to fight or argue, but just trying to reason... The man has a point, and is obviously doing something right. Just my .02, take it or leave it.

There is no way that you know how  a dog is bred just because some guy said it was. He might tell you it is out of Bozo and Betsy but how does he know that for a fact.

I cannot say about now but used to all the money was in breeding hot shot bird dog studs. In the 80s lots of them had 600 dollar stud fees and no telling what it is now.

Not too long ago I ran into a guy that I used to train, judge, and run dogs with. We got to catching up on everybody. Here is what he told me. Seems that now they have the ability to DNA the top dogs. If you are caught trying to register a bogus dog the penalty is very severe. Seems some of the really big name guys got caught peddling dogs that were not as advertised. According to him some of the guys were facing fraud charges because the evidence was undisputable that they were peddling a dog that was not as advertised.

We always suspected that if you shipped off a female and had it bred it wound up not being bred to the dog you paid to have it bred to at times. Unless I know the guy personally I would never have a bitch sent off and bred to a big name dog. I would drive there and see it bred for myself. And unless you know the hog shot dog how do you know it is actually the dog the guy says it is.

I would breed to a dog that I have hunted or seen hunt above all else. The only other possible thing I might do is buy a pup off of someone I know. Other than that it ain't gonna happen unless someone I know vouches for them.

I think I'm with Mr.Mason on this one... I'd rather see the dog hunt with it's owner first... I don't think I'd be taking a dog that doesn't know me from Bob into the woods expecting it to do it's thing 100% right off the bat. IMO, it takes a little bit of time for a new dog to get aquainted to a new owner.

x2....but the dog needs to be hunted alone...
