Ive got a gyp coming in heat that ive been waiting to get bred... I first noticed her starting to swell/leak on the 12th... If I go by the 7-7-7 schedule, she could be ready to breed by this weekend ( possibly ) Its going to be a 4 hour drive to get her bred to the dog I want, so I want to make sure I get it right and dont make a wasted trip... Has anyone ever used the Estrus Strips or Ovulation pads and where can you get them in a quick amount of time?? I figured they may be my best bet on knowing for sure if she is ready before i make the trip... Or if anyone has any other tips/advise... Ive looked at several websites and articles on what exactly to look for at the time she is ovulating, and i figured i could walk her around my male dogs to see if she will stand or fight them off... Im pretty excited to see what could come from this breeding, so I want to make sure it takes!!! Thanks for any help!!

I have always gone by 9 days after they start bleeding. You can also push just above the base of her tail and she will flag (move tail to the side) always worked for us... Good luck and good looking dog.

they usually bleed for 9 -10 days and then breed from the 11th day and then for the next 5-10 days...the old book says she will breed on the 11th day...but If I am traveling far I would check to make sure she is backing up to a male and flagging/ posing...I also check with my hand to see if she responds...I wait and extra day before I take the trip and breed her on the second or third day when she wants a male...but if you can leave her for a couple 2-3 days is best...breeding every other day is a good system also.
but leaving her with the male for 3 or 4 days is probably best...
most books will give the average...some dogs stay in heat 1 day and some heats are silent...but always bet on the averages...
good luck...that is a great looking gyp...the best mtn cur gyp I had looked like that but with the 4 inch tail and a little more ear and nose...

Thats a great looking female. How is she bred.
Ruben, how do you know that bob tailed dog had a better nose. I've seen some Mountain Curs that couldn't run a track with a hog standing in it along with some BMC's I've seen. I've also seen some BMC's that could trail with most any hound.

BigO...I was talking about the length of the nose I am not the best writer around... I like a good mtn cur...but the ones I like are hard to find...

You probably don't wanna hear this man, but 4 hrs is alot, but drive down there and leave her for a week and let them hang up as much as he can take and she will give . Lots of success with big litters thataway plus in the long run, 4 hrs one way is a small investment for a line of hog dogs.

to keep you from having to deal with one of the worthless culls, i will let you adopt one and send you a monthly photo of the pup you pick.... just dont forget to send your monthly gift of 25 bucks... ( price may vary depending on the cost of sportsmix )
