I've left shirts out for strike dogs but never a catch dog, I've left a couple overnight before and just leave the t-shirt near where you turned out and they've always been on in the next morning.

It all depends on the dog I think. Some will come back to where they were turned out and wait on you to return,....clothing or not. Some will come back and if you aren't there, go looking for you.....I had a rebone like that years ago. Some will just never return for whatever reason and turn up miles away. Did you not have a tracking collar on this dog?

I left my underwear out for my catchdog the other day. I figured he got no nose on him at all so I had better leave as big a scent as possible.

I don't run a tracking collar on my bulldogs. If the bay breaks he should either come back or be at the bay when they set him back down. If not, looks lime he's living in the woods til he wants to come back.

Did he have vest and collar on? He may have gotten overheated or he could have found himself a bad boar and got cut bad. I lost one while back that did that and got cur dogs back and no bulldog. Found him day later all cut up. Not tryin to hurt your feelings or anything but he may be dead.

Don't give up on him, had a walker go missing in alligator infested marsh for 6days and he ended up back at my shirt....... Dogs aint dumb....if he is cut down he will lay up a couple days. I wouldnt count him out yet.

Tracking collars are cheaper then a decent catch dog.

On that point I beg to differ. I have yet to pay one red cent for a catch dog. Not everyone is financially able to put a tracking collar on every dog and hunting dogs have only been fitted with tracking gear for a short amount of time. I think you should have tracking gear, but it's not a prerequisite to being a hunter.

Well when I get a decent catch dog with some good breeding behind it and not a pound puppy I might consider a tracking collar.

I think you should have tracking gear, but it's not a prerequisite to being a hunter. I will elaborate. A good catch dog to me worth a lot. THat is why I put the best vest,in my mind, on them a long with a tracking collar. Vest and collar cost more then the price I paid for my three bulldogs. I don't think having a tracking system makes you a hunter . I choose to keep track of my dogs. Sure ,tracking system are new. But so are neighbor hoods. Do you want a dog that has been out in the woods for a week to show up at a house with your collar on it? The home owner will just see a skinny dog that some hog hunter left in the woods.

Had a friend that lost a baydog for 6 days. He spent enough in Diesel and time looking for him to pay for 2 tracking collars
