Why not carry a gun?

This will always be a touchy subject. Lots of debate for sure. There was just a feed about this and i was pretty much the only one sayin i dont carry a gun. Yes you may get hogs 300lbs and mean and nasty and big cutters, BUT isnt that what most people hunt for lol? I dont go into the woods running dogs wanting to catch 70lbs shoats. So to say what if its a 300lbs boar and hes nasty tearin dogs up, wellll go in grab legs and get the hog on its sode and tied or stuck. No need for a gun there! Some say well what about snakes, to me thats not a need for a gun either of u cant kill a snake with a branch or anything in the woods just avoid it? Only good snake is a dead one i beleive but you dont nee to be shootin up the woods hog hunting because u come across a snake. There is one situation where a gun might be handy, ive personally never come across it. Thats comin up on your land  doing drugs or whatever the case is. But ive never had it happen to me or anyone i know. And to say if you cross a fence with a gun and the landowner is a A hole there IS a good chance it will be a felony. Ive seen it happen. If you cross with jist a knife to get dogs your 1000000 times better shape. Nothing at all agaisnt guns hell i love em and have wayy to many. Just not in my bag for hog doggin.

Not everyone is in it for the big boars with big cutters.  I would rather walk up to a bay and see a group of sows with shoats bayed up solid or 2-3 young boars bayed together than to see a big toothy boar hog bayed.  Baying a group is, in my opinion, a bigger accomplishment showing better dog work than baying a single hog of any size or shape.  Not to mention very little chance of injury that would put a dog out for a few weeks if a boar hog is out of the picture.

What if a hog is headed for a busy highway with dog behind but its not looking like they will get him stopped before they cross.  Then you get a chance to shoot the hog to prevent dogs from crossing the highway.  Is that not worth carrying a gun for?  Or your catch dog gets cut down and quits but the bay dogs are still trying to catch with no sucess, and getting cut down in the mean time.  If you had a gun you could shoot the hog and prevent some injuries or even save a dog.

 waylon, its their dogs, their money, their vet bills, and their hospital bill. if they choose to not carry for what ever their reason, then its on them. no1 can force a person to carry or not to carry. its our own choice. its not a outlaw thing, its a self protection thing. some1 said earlier that u might get shot by a scared land owner seeing you have a gun, and is in fear. the law is the law, but if i had to cross over the fence line, i would much rather have something to shoot back with than to sit there bleeding out with my thumb up my forth point of contact. you may just as easily get shot not carring as you would for carring. we each have our own opinions, all are like a butthole, we all have them and they all stink in some form or fashion.

Lmao! Well i def dont go doggin for 2-4 shoats lol. If i get a few cool but not what i want. Amd id never try to shoot a hog before it got to a highway bc if i could run as fast as the hog and dogs chasing it to get a shot at it before it ran acroos a road i wouldnt need dogs haha. Everyone one can make up alllll these situations about what could happen but i i get close enoigh to a hog to see it and my dogs are there i am leggin it and flippin it and tiein or stickin it. I don't carry a gun at all. But before you think someone is making up something you might want to think It through . Waylon comes from a good line of dog men.  He is after quantity not quality. He is right when your dogs hold a group of hogs they are working harder. Its his right if he wants to carry a gun. I don't but I bet u your bottom dollar he is as good with that gun as we are with catch dogs.

O no doubt! I dont doubt him a sec and i will take back my words bc when i hunt for farmers me amd them both just want as many hogs gone as possible. But i always have that big boy in my mind lol! I dont think carrying a gun doggin  is some horrible thing i just havent had a need for one YET.  ive just seen bad things happen to good people bc some a$$ hole nieghbor is a douche. I will prolly run across a situation that i will look back and say "dang sure wish o jad a gun" lol till then tho i just want my knife and rope. One of the best mosr seasoned dogger i know, one who taught me a lot of what i know carrys a pistol everywhere in the woods. Carryin a gun doesnt make you less of a hunter at all, i just havemt had that one instantce that makes me wanna take the risk of carryin one.

 I love catching sows. Any dog can track a rank boar. That's what I tell my self. In reality, big boar can cause damage even to my loose dogs. I do not enjoy doctoring my dogs. Catching a big bad hog is fun but I am just has happy catching sows. I have nothing to prove. I was broke of that years a go at the expense of some good dogs.

How many that dont carry hunt alone most the pictures i see on here theres ten people there that said i aint grabbin a live big boar too old 55 too slow. Were all bad$$s while were young and and have a army with us. All do respect  to those that can.

We work all the hogs we catch and all the ole timers work all the hogs so there is no guns with us. Now if i did not work them the it would be a different story. We work the bad ones and we work the runners the only hogs that come out are barrs
