I carried a gun for years and still do .  For a long long time we shot over dogs so that was one reason I carried it the other was for safety if I needed it.  As time went on we started to use some catch dogs and our ruff dogs caught out didnt shoot as many but  I will never go hog hunting with out a gun with in my reach to many things can go wrong and go wrong in a hurry .  A gun in a mans hands that knows how to use it safely can save your life as well as  his own .  So why not carry a gun unless you dont have enuff confendence in yourself to use it properly.   The gun is not unsafe it is the man behind it that in control of what happens he is the safety issue .

I carry a gun period got one all the time around me and if someone does not want me to carry and Am hunting him that is fine to I will just go to the house no problem no hard feelings.

For the bad bad hogs, just add a little lemon juice so it burns his eyes.. Then he cant see you when you run in and leg him!! And its pretty tasty after you get him flipped and tied...   Wink

Tw you I should add some seasonings in that water gun or do you think it might cause it to jam or miss fire?

Yeah seasoning will jam it up unless your using a super-soaker... but its a pain dragging them through the woods...
Lawrys seasoned salt will work...

Pickle juice works too... and a couple squirts for yourself will keep you from cramping when your wrestling with a big one...

Nothing like a Charlie Horse when you've got 350 pounds of pissed pig in your hands!!!  Grin

Lol this is funny to me. No one is sayin is that dont carry guns are bad ass. We just dont see a need for a gun to hog hunt. Or dont wanna take te risk of carryin them due to retreiving dogs. Ising it the right way isnt the issue its having one at all. I honestly cant see whats in the woods i need a gun for. Maube somethin will change my mind in te future. This is somwwhat of a dead end convo.

Not a dead end conversation.  The post was made to see what people's reasons are for not wanting to carry a gun on a hog hunt.  Not to try and convince them to carry one if they dont want to.  I could not care less if people take a gun or not on thier hog hunt.  I will always believe people should do as they see fit.  I'm just curious as to WHY they don't take a gun along.  Thanks to those that allready have expressed thier reason why, and its still open for posts if anyone cares to share or add another reason.  However, I am well aware of the fact quite a few people enjoy telling others they kill hogs with thier bare hands as a way feel macho and stroke thier ego.  So if you feel the need express yourself as such.  Please refrain. Wink  All other reasons are welcome.

I bought a .44 Taurus Tracker and put a Crimson Trace Laser on it  some years back and carry it when my friends kids come along. The reason for this is that we cut a bulldogs loose on a boarhog about 200# and went running in on a broke bay. Everyone got scattered and the hog come running out of the woods and we sqaured off at about 15 ft. I figured I could dodge him or whatever it took but I had a 6 yr. old standing in front of me and that was a bad feeling with only a knife. I bought a handgun and carry when I think it is necessary. Don't usually carry with just the guys. Haven't needed it yet but it is a good tool in the belt. That being said I have had some nervous moments with other folks that have hunted with us and carried and I don't know there skill level or decision making skills.

The post clearly says " why not carry a gun" so tellin people to refrain from sayin  WHY THEY DONT CARRY a gun is pretty humorous. The sarcastic macho BS os dumb as hell. If you ask why nottocarry a gun amd people say y they dont, and then we  get all the "badass macho" BS. Get real guy

Would shoot to many dogs and against the law if I have to go onto private property to get a dog. I have seen times I would like to have a gun though.
Wouldn't a knife be considered a weapon also if you are own someone elses property?
