this is true and i didnt imply no hunt, but sometimes when you take a certain trait out from a line or add a trait you influence another trait indirectly. take bottom out and you may inadvertenly alter another trait like drive. but im just talking dogs here, just picking your brain.
but if your dogs can sit a hog down, run a track fast, and keep it from running etc etc then why even mess with the bottom, why not just keep enhancing the stopping power. if they stop all the hogs then bottom shouldnt even come into play for better or worse. why not just train your dogs to have the handle to come off the hog when you tell them to.

Allow me to give example of what "annoys" a "typical" Florida hunter

What annoys this Florida hunter....... That are most typical Fl dogs.

Dogs that go 200 yds max when you know there are hogs at 300yrds!

Dogs that cant smell hog tracks that are less than 30 min. old!

Dogs that run a hog 1000 yrds then quit!

Strong in you the force is hahahaha....  Grin  You are thinking about the same things I am for a fact....

... as for the dogs I am currently working with... In each of them lies the genetics of my perfect dog... BUT... there is WITHOUT DOUBT, a multitude of traits I must cull out with time in order to refine what it is that I have.

What traits would I like to get rid of/cull out?

-60% yip when a hog breaks... that pisses me off.

-50% would rather catch on the head with the bulldog... that pisses me off.

-35% have too much bottom... that pisses me off.

-30% don't have the heart to stop a good hog by themself... this REALLY pisses me off.

... that's all the "genetic faults" that I can think of that I have to deal with after the initial cuts...  I really don't care to dilute what I have at this point, just remove certain traits.

Short range stoppers would be great if you got a good many hogs. But what if you have only a handful of hogs on a couple thousand acres or more? I would think you need dogs to go find them hogs.
I know what you mean about dogs blowing out of the country so to speak. I have hunted behind some of these dogs and found hogs that they went by. Like someone else said I want a dog that will start out hunting beside me and move out to where ever it takes to bay a hog.

No bottom does not necessarily imply no hunt  Wink  I have dogs that don't miss many hogs, but don't run more than a thousand yds after they jump...  if a dog can find a hog, run a track FAST, and sit that bitch down... ain't no need for bottom  Grin
;)Hard to beat a good , close range, rough,"business like" dog that knows when it is beat.
