hey yall, I've been hunting alot lately, with alot of different people and dogs. My question is, why don't more people hunt with red tick or blue tick hounds? I know there are all different types of dogs used anywhere from muts to reg. bmc, and currs. The people I have asked say they are not gritty, or they are just coon dogs. I have one that is very gritty, and I know some of yall hunt with them. So I thought I would ask. thanks. i know it isn't that hard of a question but, mainly an opinion question. I just wanted to heaare yalls input. Thanks

I use to have a red tick jyp that turned into one of my best find dogs. Just like you said, she was not rough at all. But i had very rough curs at the time. She did not need to be. She opened a little on a track but was completely silent if she winded hogs. Though she was a good track dog she seemed to have above average ability to wind hogs from a good distance away. She was trashy when I first got her. She would tree things,
hole things bayed cattle, once! One time on a trip to west Texas she treed a almost quileless porcupine. Funny story, I had never seen one with quills. But this one had maybe five quills  that I did not see at first. I got to the tree, to scold her, looked up and thought, What the hell is that. But I stayed with her because she was one of the hardest hunting dogs I have ever owned. Before I knew it she was broke, and a hog finding machine.

Have fun getting this answered on a forum that is mostly visited by cur dog hunters.

Truth is, people hunt what they are comfortable with.  Nothings wrong or right either way.  Personally, I choose to hunt big-game blueticks.  That being said, I have hunting partners that hunt cur dogs, and they catch hogs as well.  Different strokes for different folks.

Enjoy the dogs you own.

Can you imagine how much storage Easttexashogdoggers would have to pay for if everybody ran blueticks. Let's see......  50 paragraph stories by 1500 members.  That's a lot of reading.

Hog head is right. Sissy was fast, as were the curdogs that ran with her. Funny thing about her, I say she was not rough, but of the bog hogs she found off by her self, she seemed to always keep them stopped.
