Jakes, from what I've learned... just as in our own country there are inumerable breeders that fly under the radar of public scrutiny...  as for the history of bull terriers... I would say, this area of the world would most likely carry the earliest genetics of most all modern molossers

Thanks Swine Stalker, I have been fortunate to make some really interesting friends on that "FB" thing lol...

I see a dog that has raw speed, power and bite. Useless to me and how I hunt. Awesome looking dog though. The way I would use him would be a disservice. Aren't their nose lacking? Seems from the videos the hunters just jump a hog and dump dogs.

Those guard dogs look like they might be Anatolian's and if so those are some bad dudes. We've had a couple different breeds of guard dogs around our place such as Pyrenees and Akbash, but we've had Anatolians the last 6 years. The 2 guard dogs we have now are a pair of Anatolian out of the same litter. They are 2 males and I mean to tell you since they were about 11 months old they have been some very aggressive, protective animals with a lot of drive for what they do and plenty of muscle and attitude to back it up.

I've run across a few Anatolians up this way. They are scary protective. If you have them with your sheep coyotes are in deep doodoo. A buddy had one and noone went in his pasture. The one in the pic above sure looks like the Anatolians I've seen.

Noah I admire the fact you are always trying to improve the stuff you have and the sincere interest you take in good bred animals and the desire of owners to maintain it.  now with that being said if you were able to get your hands on either of the two breeds posted, (which for some strange reason i believe you are) would you A: mix the blood into your stuff to add or take away a charecteristic you like/dislike or B:  Leave the breed tru to the way the people have spent generations to make it?

I'm fairly certain you wouldnt be able to leave it be and would cross it, which posses the next question.  In the eyes of the generations who have passed and maintained the breed for thousand years wouldnt you be the same as the people mentioned in this post?  I.E the ones who have changed a breed not so much for the better? (not saying your breeding would be bad, just using the ideas which have already been posted)

Just somethin to ponder on  Wink Grin

Very good points Ryan, points that I have thought about thoroughly believe it or not  Grin

... as for pure breeds, especially like this, where the breed was developed is usually the best place to maintain it... just as Vidallia onions don't taste like Vidallia onions when grown anywhere else lol... environment plays as much a part in creating a specimen as the "creators"...

I feel the pure strain of breeds like this should be kept intact to preserve them for posterity( and a possible outcross lol Wink Grin)... difficult at best, when the means to test said specimens are not available... so, leave well enough alone... sometimes things are meant to be where they are.

... but it does not mean that just because one does not understand something fully, that it cannot still be appreciated

Hahaha, good observation...  Grin

If I did choose to take on a dog like this, there would be no sense in trying to preserve it, I do not have the means... so I would incorporate it into my catchdog line if it proved worthy

... thankyou Reuben, excellent compliment

Since i know you like a good debate, ill go one further based on the above.  If you incorporated either of the lines shown into your catchdog (and im assuming you mean bucho) wouldnt you be in turn damaging to very good, and proven (in their own rights) lines?  Why not incorporate them if they are worthy into your cur line? (and I know the answer as to why you wouldnt do that since youve said a zillion times more bay less catch).  Sorry bud cant help but stir a little..  Grin

I have done some research over the past couple years on Pakistani and iranian dogs. I haven't personally spoken with anyone about their lines Noah but what I have noticed is that most gull terr's look very dissimilar amongst breeders. Some look very good and some look gigantic and sloppy. The white dog is a very good looking dog with the exception that it is white. All in all I have an infatuation with those dogs but I would never jump the gun and have one shipped over here on a gamble. I'm not a gambling man.

Ryan, Bucho is an extreme end to a means... if you know what I mean...  to make a truly perfect omlette, one has to break a few really good eggs  Wink Grin

As far as fighting dogs go Easttex, I have seen the pithold his own with some dogs that still amaze me...  I believe the world still holds the good old pit with a good bit of reverence...

Jakes, I completely agree, would not think of it before laying eyes on the animals in person.

Bucho is a great catch dog for very specific hogs...  when you get a big, bad som-bitch that wants to fight and would very likely sling smaller dogs all to hell... THIS is where Bucho truly excells...  in fact, he is INVALUABLE in that sense...  what he lacks is quickness, speed, agility... through some crosses I intend to do over the next few years, I aim to improve this  Wink

Noah, it's a wise man that can look at the BEST of something he has and see what he needs to  do to improve it.  Too many folks cant admit their dogs aint the best, nor see where they are lacking, while focusing only on what the dog does well.

... have been talking dogs with a local about a dog breed I am very fond of...  the Kuchi/Kangal Livestock Guardian Dog(LGD).  The natives that run livestock in the mountains of the region(Pakistan/Afghanistan/Iran) have bred this dog as, basically, a big, bad ass sheep dog... to protect their animals from wolves/protect their homesteads...

There are much, much more interesting history/facts about this animal that I would like to tell you all about, but out of respect for the owner of this site, I will not... For each picture, I have a thorough story told me by the breeder... very interesting stuff

Grand Champion "Palang" of Kabul... This is what a dog looks like that's worth more to a local man than TWO LandCruisers and 10K cash...

This is an old, OLD culture... In my opinion, this area of the world holds some of the oldest, purest genetics of a type of dog we have until this point only read about in history books... it is my great honor to speak with men that still maintain such quality in genetics.

They are definitely some beautiful dogs. Are they natural bobtails or do they dock em at birth?
