Well my redbone Bmc cross has been all bay until recently he decides he likes catching .. its all fine but now when he hunts I gotta keep track of him cause he won't make a sound just catch .. you think he will get out of that stage? He is only year and a half old but it just through me for a loop when I walked up on him and he was caught with no bark on a nice sow by his self

has he been on a rank one by himself?  my dogs catch.  i like that, however they will only catch 150 or so by themselves anything bigger they bay, unless there are two dogs there then they are gonna catch.  if he hasnt got his butt whopped by a big one yet he may just need one to man handle him so to speak.  i would try it in a pen with a hog witth no teeth if it were me.

He has only taken a few hits none to bad ... That may be just the thing he needs cause I sure would hate to lose him on a rank one thanks for the advice

I would defiantly be running a bay vest on him at minimum just to be safe

What Rd said.. I had a cur who was str8 catch he caught some good ones. BUT got wrecked on a bad one and he will only catch 150lb by himself now and bay anything bigger. One thing I would suggest is you run a another rough one with.sounds like you got a good one.Good Luck

I just wouldn't depend on one as a real CD unless you know he won't let go even if he gets cut. I would hate to get on a toothy hog and for some reason the dog gets cut and lets go and there I am with no dog on a pissed off hog before I leg it.

I have been in some bad spots and need to know the CD isn't going to let go.

Is the dog young?  I have a BMC male and he is real catchy too, but recently now that he is 2.5yrs old going on 3yrs he has started baying more, so I think he has learned that if they are big to wait til help arrives.  As the dog matures he gets smarter...

I would def run him with one like him, if you run him with a dog that wont catch and he expects that dog for backup it could get ugly quick.  Ive had it hapen to me, now i ask people i hunt with if their dogs are catchy before we turn out, otherwise i only run my dogs, or only their dogs, never together if theirs arent gritty like mine.
