My truck is due for some maintenance and I want to jack it up just a bit. What parts get replaced during a professional lift, can I get it lifted and stiffened just a bit without going nuts on the height and how much should this job cost me?

2003 Chevy 1500HD 4x4

I've got 210,000 miles on it and really need an alignment and the front end squeaks and pings a lot while riding dirt roads. I've said that I wanted t get this fixed and several folks have told me just get it lifted too whe I'm at it. I've never had one lifted, just bought them already done.

T-bob, numerous companies make lifts from 2-10" check out 4wheelparts.com they have tons of lifts/ info for you to look through and decide which is best.

I'd rather just pay to have it done. I'm not a good mechanic and would probably screw up my truck, not to mention it would take my whole week off to get it done. If I have to for the sake of cost, I will buy the kit, a brisket and a bottle of Crown and just find some mechanically inclined friends.

Personally... I would stay away from keys or cranking the torsion bars. It will cause premature wear. When you get an actualy lift it they come with parts to keep you CV and BJ angles a lot better.

The pinging might be your CV joints already and the squeks could just be dust or you may need new bushings on the front end.

with a key kit you will run into problems with wheel bearings and control arms.

to stiffen it up alil buy performance shocks some are highly expensive but you get what you pay for. i have fox gas shocks on my truck and love them

If you decide to do the torsion bar and key lift I wouldn't max it out maybe up just 2" max. When I bought my current truck they had everything maxed out in the front with a whole new front end I went through 3 cv axles and 2 sets of ball joints because everything was so tight. Then I dropped it down to 2" when I bought a lot smaller tires and the ride is noticeably smoother and no more front end issues. Is the squeakin when you turn? If so you just needa grease everything up in your steering. The pinging may be a small bar that goes to your sway bar to your lower A arm if its when you hit bumps. I know the brushing are real bad about goin out

I think y'all are right about the bushings, what does it entail to change all of those out?
I think if I did that+ new shocks + torsioner bars, that might be what it needs.

For the bushings you have to change that bar out its bout as big around as a pencil and 8-10" long for both of em I think it may be $15 at O'Reillys good mid grade shocks $65-$70 and if you wanna raise the torsion bars go to offroad performance in manvel next to lozanos and manvel muffler the guy in there is real good bout his prices and pretty cool to just b.s. with
