I am going to build a 20 x 20 bay pen and need to keep em from rooting up the yard to bad needing to have any input you may have

They make pliers and rings for this specific purpose.

If you're asking where, we've put the barbs at the top of the nose through the nose hole on either side.  They don't much root after that.

There is a ring made by a company called deckers. It is called a Humane ring, put it right in the center of their nose and squeeze it shut with channel locks, it will stay in for years.

when you do it go ahead and get you some hog ring pliers to do it with , the channel loks will allow the ring to slip out . and on a moving target makes it difficult . that's why they make special pliers for it . i use hog rings for repairing or putting 2x4 weld wire on cow panels and such ,  and at times the channel locks are difficult to use . gonna do a job get the right tools .

Like Halfbreed get the right stuff,I use to put in three because he woul turn his head and root on the side,real simple to do if you got somebody to hold the hog with hog ringers,and you can use them for othe things.
