Something has been rolling around in the back of my head for a while and it is the question of why I hog hunt.  Personally it is because I HATE hogs with a desire like no other.  I really do not get all that worked up over a big set of teath other than a look and maybe a couple of pics then the hog is out of my mind.  Yes I like watching the dogs work but when it comes right down to it it all comes back to I HATE HOGS because of the damage they do.  What are some of the reasons some of you all hunt hogs and this is with dogs guns what ever.

I got hooked on watching working dogs with my blood tracker, from there it sort of evolved into hunting hogs.   I like the dogs, I like the rush when you hear a bay, and for the most part I like the people, along with the time in the outdoors.  They're pretty good eatin too.

All of the above but I don't think we're ever going to kill them out anytime in our lifetime or our grandkids lifetime Grin Grin Grin

When i was in the 1st grade i moved from her in Chambers county Tx. and moved to Colorado with my mom and step-dad , he was best friends with a big game guide and outfitter , he guided elk and deer hunts , and high mountain fishing trips , and he ran lion and bear with hounds , i spent almost everyday that i wasnt in school with this man , his name was Arlis Whitecotton , i got my love for trail dogs from this man , i love a good dog and i like big game , and thats all we have here is hogs , you cant run dogs on bear anymore in colorado , i moved back to Tx . when i was 15 , but i often think back about how lucky i was , anyway thats why i hog hunt , i dont hate the hogs , i hate fire-ants and mosquittos , later

There are so many reasons why..... but a few stick out, there is no greater feeling than hearin your dogs bayed up or even better yet seein them work... and its all about the adrenalin rush..bein in the woods, away from the everyday, and the commrodary of other doggers is yet another. I could go on but I think I covered the basics for myself.

I'm a natural dog lover and I love to see them work, and I have always loved the outdoors so its a great way to get both in at once, and honestly you can't beat the friends you make hog hunting.  The adrenaline rush and the stories are awesome, cuz whats hunting without the stories!

Pork. Its the other white meat!!!! Grin

Lots of reasons Ive hunted hogs all these years however, it turned into a way of life for me a long time ago. For me its mostly about the dogs and my time spent with them in the woods, training, hunting, and seeing the good ones turn out. Nothing is finer than seeing a sho-nuff hog dog work out sign, track, find and bay a hog in my book!!!
If it wasn't for the dogs I wouldn't even fool with them other than poking one or two with my bow every year for the freezer.

well i love dogs and like seeing them work, what really makes you happy when you get a puppy and train him week after week then the day he finds his own hog its like all you have been waiting for. i think the adrenaline rush really play a big part too. because your not just sitting in a deer stand hour after hour and nothin your at least watching your dogs work. just my 2 cents for the day Grin

I've hunted dogs my whole life but it was coon hunting for years and I still have a couple hounds but to watch a dog with enough guts to go in and grab a big nasty HOG there is just nothin like it, and the rush of it bein just you and your dogs catchin this thing and killin it with only a Knife well that says it all. The first time I went it was like haveing a blood transfusion I can't get it out of my blood.

It used to be to catch hogs, an adreniline rush like no other. I still get that rush, but now it's I wanna watch the dogs work, not saying dry runs don't seriously piss me off, they still do, lol...but it's mostly the dogs, and I really admire what we're hunting, hogs are an opponent like no other, intelligent, mean, adaptable to their enviroment, predators, etc.

I just hate hogs they have cost a lot of people around here a lot of money, I have to repair about 6 large holes in the fence aorund my oats fields where they are big enough to let calves thru, also found about 5 turkey nest that some 30 lbs. pigs were eating the eggs, only 7 eggs left.

I have hunted all over the world and so far I haven't found anything like hunting hogs with my dogs. I used to run beagles for cats in Oregon and made the transition to Texas running my dogs for hogs. Theres nothing better than watching my dogs work and advance every time out, the rush you get when running to the bay and the excitement of the catch!! I love the dogs, the hogs for giving me something to hunt, and the God for creating the outdoors and everything in it for me to enjoy!! Grin

I enjoy all kinds of hunting with dogs.  Deer, coon, squirel, went bear hunting for the first time last year.  I enjoy hearing the dogs and watching them work, no matter the game.  Used to keep between 15 and 30 deer dogs. If you invite me to go possum hunting with a poodle and a stick, Ill go. But as some one stated earlier hogs are just my drug of choice. Wink

I have been hog hunting for about 8 years and love it. I like hearing the dogs bay, then the rush of sending a catchdog and catching the hog. I also enjoy starting young dogs and working them and when they turn out to a good dog it makes me alot more proud of them knowing i trained them

well, i'm a dog person myself.  i used to raise and train some labs and gsp's but my bird lease started getting way too expensive to keep, and the more and more people that got into duck and geese hunting i didn't have much in common.  they didn't have dogs, had no interest in dogs, unless they needed your dog to fetch birds cause they were too lazy to retrieve them themselves ( i did this when i was a lot younger and didn't have a dog yet).   so once i found out about hog doggin and went a few times i was hooked.  the BIGGEST plus for me is the majority of the people that do this i enjoy being around and BS'n with, and i get to have dogs for a purpose again other than companionship.

Sometimes I wonder why I do this sprot But it is a lifestyle that I will do till I die cowboying and hog hunting go to gether for me I keep a good set of dogs around all the time I love to breed my dogs and see my blood line work on cows and hogs. There nothing like standing in the saddle and jumping in on top of a hog. I don't HATE them I try to keep them going in the wild on my pesonal places.Know I hate DEER they get in my way and most deer hunters not all of them have no reason to be hunting with aa gun  I own my on places and have alot of deer they are like hunting cows they stand there and look at you very stupid.there is nothing better than watching a good dog work.
