I AM GOING TO WELD UP SOME FRONT AND BACK RACKS FOR THE 4 WHEELER. EVERYONE HAS SEEN ROWDYS HOW HE HAS THE WALL AGAINST THE RIDERS BACK. I HAVE ALSO SEEN SOME WITH THE WALL AT THE BACK END OF THE QUAD. WHAT ARE THE REAL PROS AND CONS OF EACH SETUP. I JUST WANT TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME THANKS.

Mine is currently against my back, like a pickup bed, but my next one will be the opposite, with the wall on the rear.
I think it's safer for the dogs to be sitting on a rack, with the wall behind them.

This is the one I built.  I prefer the front bulkhead for a couple reasons. Dogs get clipped to the front, with they eyes and nose in the direction I am headed.  It also keeps wet muddy dogs off of me, and the dogs do not have to climb on the seat to load up. Keeps their toe nails from tearing up seat.

I made a few modifications to my rack. Put a rubber bedmat on the bottom to keep toe nails from hanging up, and I put a 1x4 across the back to keep from hanging a leg when unloading dogs.

I used Chris's pictures a long time ago and built the same exact rack for my older machine.

No complaints from me, and all over again I wouldn't change a thing.

I designed mine by looking at Circle C's pics, and it is great for hauling corn, coolers, and anything else.
He makes some valid points, making me rethink my thinking on a rearward facing bulkhead. Hmmmmm.

i would try to keep the weight as close over top the rear axle as possible , maybe a rack on the front to balance out the weight

Craig,

You are right about the weight needing to be over the rear axle.  I ended up putting a couple of 2x2's under the rack, so that I could move it forward and sit above the rear of the seat without rubbing the seat.  It helped quite a bit.

Best counter weight I have found is in the first picture. A little pork makes the all the difference Wink

If you are lazy like me you can avoid the miter cuts on the square tubing and bend some solid rod to make the curves.

I prefer the front bulkhead also, it keeps the dogs off of you.  The one I built hangs pretty far off the back of the bike, and I ran into some sagging issues like craig and chris are talking about.  To fix it I ran some round bar from the center of the rack and ran them directly into the frame.  I was able to get the round bar 18" into the frame.  It took care of the sagging.

Craig your signature is all wrong. I think the old addage goes like this...

" don't call him a cowboy until you've had his dutch oven deserts"

How are you gonna attach everything to the excisting rack? I don't want to weld to it.  Whats the best way to secure it to the pipes???
