we r getting together a bay pen that w e hope to have up and running before next year.  We have ac facilities childrens play areas etc....
we r looking for some feed back about what you guys like and dont like, want dont want, anybody that is knowledable and would like to lend some advice would be great anybody that would like to help out on the labor end would be great too.  We went to hamilton texas today and bought all of our panels and wire to get the pen and working pens set up.  we were hoping dec 8 for the first bay but i broke my leg playing wild boar poker got hit on the side and shattered my knee and tibia had to put some screws plates and someone elses bone in me.  This is a sport that i love its in my blood and in my heart.  we are a family operated organization as a family first agenda.  so any info at all that anyone has or if you wanna come take a look at what were doing let me know i hope to get a lot of feed back on this, once again this bay pen will be opening were not thinking about it or looking at doing it its coming  very soon HOPe to hear from everyone

Glad to hear about another pen opening up in Texas. I use to love the competitions. Maybe I'll get back into them next year. They are a great way to learn about hogs and dogs and a chance to meet some wonderful people.
For a good turn out I would suggest trying to set it on a weekend that will not conflict with other Texas pens or at least not with the pens that are nearest to you. Try and get/keep large hogs in your pen. I know it's tough but if you can keep them around the 200-250lb mark your going to get your best results (with your runs and in turn out). As far as judging goes, I think a two man system is a minnimum but three is better (drop high and low or just take aggregate). Make sure judges are knowledgable and consistant. The worse thing that can happen is to have your judges labeled (home pen judges, play favorites, etc.). Give a fair cut on the prize money. Offer a 100% payback on Calcutta. Provide concessions. Do all that and you should be in great shape. I'll check it out in December!

It would help you to not have it on 2nd weekend. cause village mills is that weekend and yall will be splitting alot of your competitors. Not telling you how or what to do. just somthing to think about just kinda common courtisy to not schedule on an exsisting pens weekend. But all the same hope yall do well looks like a good spot.

I would like to say again that the bigger your hogs are (up to about 250lbs) the better off you will be. You'll have less catch outs and that is a GOOD thing. Maybe you can get some donations from hunters or possibly even another pen. I know when I ran in the competitions the owners of pens would travel to other pens to compete. I'm sure they would like your pen to be nice as well.

All our hogs at our bay will be over 250 or there at.  We have arranged our hogs that was our first priority before we started construction to make sure we had good sorted and seperated hogs that would run just about equal so everythings fare.  Our hogs will be coming from phillip swallows with hogs gone wild winona texas.  autry boyd and his wife i hope i spelled that right i believe r going to be helping use choose and sort hogs, and his wife i believer is going to help with our judging

Glad its goin to be close enought to go to. Havent been to any bay outs yet but we are excited to go to some. Got one that is goin to need a big tough pig. So sounds like this will be a place to bring my best. I will be talking to some of my puppy clients and see if they can bring some dogs. What days are yall looking at to work on the pens. We are open to Sundays or Mondays. Hope to meet you there mr.moffitt. By the way i still havent gotten to deal with Langford.
Are y'all going to have ladys only??
