my neighbor has a cow that is roaming around the woods around our house that wont go back in his pasture and runs when we get close to her, he asked me today if my dogs would catch it and i said yea. its a full grown heifer with horns about 2foot wide shes black and white just to give yall an idea of what she looks like. but what i want to know has anyone on here ever caught a cow with bulldogs before? i need to know how many bulldogs i need to put on her and what to expect when they catch her and maybe a few tips on what to do after they do catch her. i wont be doing this off a horse i was thinking about putting my box on my ranger and opening the doors when i see her. any information about what im getting into will be helpful thanks

Good luck man i had a buddies dog bay a cow in the dark one night turned one bulldog to it and he took it down and had it caught by the ear about 700-800 lbs. I wouldnt do it i would rope it or get someone that knows how if she gets one dog down she could kill it not worth it to me. If you do it expect a rodeo thats no fun

uuhhmmmm TROUBLE  is what your fixing to have . a good [ cow] bulldog is way differant than a bulldog  . a good cow working bulldog allways hits the nose and applies just enough pressure to hold the cow , too much pressure and the cow will go to fighting and the end result is not good for the dog or the cow . if you turn your dogs on a cow just be ready for a rodeo lol and some stomped on dogs and torn up cow .

there are no professionals cow hands around here or anything close to a cowboy, just some ruff hog hunters.  this is the second time i have been asked to turn on a cow this month. the other week a man asked us to come up there to his place said he had 2 out we get up there and he then tells us one was about a 1500lb bull and one about 500lbs but we couldnt find them i wasnt wanting to run up on that bull anyhow. i might need to get in this business around here. if anyone has a video of a cow catching they could post it might be helpful. what i was thinking was turn 1 or 2 bulldogs on it and maybe she will sit down or just stand there and tie a rope around her neck to a tree and then take a tractor and pull her in a trailor?

I have caught several and can tell you it's hell on bulldogs if they don't know how to catch a cow. You just think hogs are hard on them, a cow can ruin one right quick.

Catching cattle is not unheard of. Mainly for a run off wild cow you can't get close enuf to rope. Hunt her down and send your dogs. Get her caught then roped, call out your dogs, and drag her in the trailer. My question for you is what do you plan on doing with her once you have her caught? Will you have someone with a trailer ready and someone ready to rope her? Can you call your dogs out? If not take everyones advice and don't bother it will be nothing but a headeach.

yeah the man has a trailor but the calling the dogs out is probably not going to happen and the roping thing is gonna be a problem to. i was just hoping she would sit down when they got her caught and i could walk up there and just tie it around her neck but i didnt know if she would run with them on her or be bucking and charging. i really dont know about this whole alabama cowboy thing lol .im thinking now ill just leave my bulldogs at home and call a buddy i hunt with some and we just use his bulldogs

if you use those bull dogs for catch dogs on hogs then you shouldn't put them on a cow because they will start catching cows and you don't want that...I have seen it about 4 times too many...dogs get trampled and cows go down and dogs loose their canines...and now you have cow catching machines...

True .. when we have problems with cows we just get of few dogs to put just enough pressure on it and to drive it in to a pen. It's never as easy as it sounds.. may take time but with enough trying the dogs should be able to drive it in a pen without catching on it.. jmo

Man please film this for us.  Send your catch dogs two of them get to the cow asap roll her over twist her head to where you can stick a horn in the dirt. Grab her tail pull it between her legs while one man sits on her like a hog. Another man tie her feet. This is going to be Western. We want to see a video for sure. Good luck. Evil
