I have a brand-new knife, real nice that I would like to donate to the raffle or silent auction. What do I need to do to get it in the right hands, just bring it the day of?

Just bring it the day of the baying and see Gilbert or myself and most any one at the TDHA booth.

Thanks for your support.

Julie,

That is called the "high points champion". Its the overall champion DOG based on cumulative point earnings of that individual DOG for all divisions entered, which eliminates your concern about handlers with more dogs having higher potential. The judges will know how to calculate it.

One suggestion that I do have, and what we did at the Hill Country Bay Competition, is to mandate that the children handle their own dog and that dogs entered into the youth events be precluded from the adult competition. We did this to eliminate the possibility of a kid running his or her dads best dog in the youth event while the parent was also winning the adult division with the same dogs..... The point was to promote youth participation ON ALL LEVELS and fair competition which we did effectively.

Great point Julie and will do something along those lines.  I am sure open to some ideas.  We do the pig chase and make sure everyone gets a trophy or $$.  That way no child is left out and everyone feels good about themselves.  I would also like to do something for women as well.  I know for sure without my wife nothing would be possible.

I'm planning on bringing two dogs from several states away for the bays, with my wife and daughter. But I had some questions:

There was talk of doing some kind of bench show and a drag race... I would really like to enter both of my dogs in both of those events as well.

Having the bench show would probably bring out some female handlers that might not otherwise enter. I know several hunters wives who would fall into this category.

I don't know how the trailer is set up, if the dogs could get to the hog if they were determined to, but if they can't, then having the drag race would also provide an incentive for folks with fast catch dogs to come and enter their dogs who wouldn't be able to compete in the bay events.

I'd be willing to make a donation to help offset the cost of ribbons or trophies for those events if its needed. Who do I talk to to make sure these events are held?

Sorry it would probably not be a good idea to have catch dogs at the baying.  If we have enough daylight we will do all of the events.  It will just depend on how the other events run.  I beleive we will incorporate some of these events in our regular monthly baying as well.  I love the idea of having the women involved and having just as good of a time as the men.
 Thanks,
 Gilbert
