It is likely the Rs will have an advantage in 2016.  Incumbent parties seldom win the WH after 8 years.  In fact, this is the first time since about the 1700's that we have had 3 two-term presidents in a roll.

Of the Rs, I like the possiblility of Marco Rubio or Chris Christie.  I think I could vote for either of them.

Uhhh  ...  yeah.  I would.  I did.  I have.  Yesterday I voted for Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and neither.  I do not vote for parties.  I vote for the individual candidate.  I am an independent voter.

The results had nothing to do with politics (I assume you know what I mean). I have a teacher friend who asked her students who they were going to vote for and about 8 of 10 kids said "Obama" but only 2 of them said his name. The rest said the "black guy" WRONG ANSWER and they said that's how they're parents referred him as.This wasn't an election, this was a popularity contest.

If you have a chance PLEASE look at the Illinois Senator election results. Jesse Jackson Jr has been in and out of the hospital since June and did VERY minimum campaigning and he won 80% of the votes, hence the popularity contest.
I'm not trying to be racist or trying to influence votes or voters just giving my 2 cents.

You raise an interesting point.  I am not one who would vote for Jesse Jackson or Jr.  I think they are both   ...  uhmmmm  ...  less than honest.  But I had no idea who his opponent was.  Turns out to be a white guy who has never run for office before and it appears that he ran a minimalist campaign.  I think JJ Jr. winning is probably a by-product of gerry mandering.  It is a carved out democratic district.

I don't like gerry mandering by either party.  I think they should carve up a state into rectangles (or as close as they can following natural divides such as rivers and roads) and let the chips fall where they may.

One other indicator of how independent I am.  I do not vote in primaries because I refuse to align with either party.  The downside is that I then have no say on who either party nominate.  When I voted yesterday, I commented to my wife that I had two identical valid voter registration cards.  She said the county mail 2 to both of us.  Then she said we could have used one to vote in the R primary and the other to vote in the D primary.  Hmmmm.  Not happening.

2012 - The year the people re-elected Obama, and elected a dead man....   Not sure which is more disturbing.
