Only one time I have ever gone in pursuit of a particular hog and known that it was caught. This was not a known dog killer, just a nuisance hog.  Now, I have had friends in south Texas that have gone after a particular hog. One that gave them the slip on several occasions. In the palmetto post I am reading about people going after one hog in particular, and catching it finally. I want to hear some more stories about the dog smart ones, that were finally caught...or maybe not, and they are still out there giving hog hunters hell.

With all this talk about elusive/ legendary hogs I present you "THE GHOST HOG" Shocked

That one there looks floppy eared.  "The Guide's Choice" is right on the money on that video.  As in, the dude that arranged that hunt, picked that specific pen raised hog, turned it loose, and let the so called hunter shoot that domestic hog.  That my freind does not appetize me in the least.  Most of the so called trophy ranches around these parts, are the same.  Hey, get old Fred, the 450 pound pen hog out, and release him on the back 40.  This high-dollar hunter wants to bag a "real" trophy.  JMO

Poor ol hog didn't know what to do when the "hunter" went to shooting at him. Might as well have left him in the trailer, shot him there, then hauled him to the processor. But, I guess that would not have been "hunting"

Joey,

Do you have a change in strategy for catching the Butcher now?  How many times have y'all been on him to get the count to 6?  Will you still try to use a catch dog, or will you shoot him?

That is crazy!!!! Thats some real hunting by some professional hunters right there Grin
I've got one though, he still elusive too!! He cut three of my better dogs down about 4 or 5 months ago, and he's destroyed traps. I saw him the day he cut em' and twice since it happened, he'll fight for only a second then burn em' in the palms. He's a bruiser and hasn't been cut, but his ears are shredded pretty good from the numerous encounters we've had with him. We came close the second time but as soon as the cd caught he stood up she couldn't touch the ground, he went right between two trees and peeled her off. His day's coming though!!!!

Sounds like a pretty stout hog HogzgoneWild.  Im curous how you would go about stopping a hog like that when he is that aggressive, that fast, and there are no ears to grab a hold of him with.  I might would just put a bullet in him   Evil

I think that guide was confused! The REAL Ghost Hog is still in Huntsville, Tx. (not Alabama)  Grin I caught this grey barrow a few years ago in Glendale. It was all the other guys 1st hunt that they had ever been on. After I tied the hog they were all like "hog hunting is awesome!!" haha 3 out of the 4 of them now run thier own pack and all have really good dogs.    I didnt want to butcher him and he was so 'majestic' and rare I swung the gates and turned him loose on my place. A deer hunter saw him last deer season and said it looked like a charolais cow running across the pipeline. He is still out there...GROWING...think you can leg him?! Ha Sorry Chris, I had to.  Wink

I'm not sure about a "ghost hog" but I've got a runner up on my lease I can't wait to get hold of.  Evil It's a black boar with white socks on his front legs, I'd say well under two hundred pounds, closer to 150.  Nothing exceptional looking about him.  I know I've been on him three times maybe four.  I watched him lose my dogs in a herd of cattle once, chased him for the better part of a morning once, and this last time, got him bayed by a set of working pens and got there just in time to see him and my Blue dog go over the hill.  One of these days he's gonna screw up and we'll get him.  If I ever do he's getting euro mounted.

That video was rediculous. I thought about searching on the e-net for that attourney. Call him up and tell him he was hunting Wilbur and  he needs to spends some more time at the range before he goes hunting again.

finally got the video to load.  That guy's lucky to be alive with that ferocious hog trying to get past him and back into his trailer and all.  good thing they got rid of that menace.  I'm sure marion alabama appreciates it.
