FL Boar 11/24

All my rowdy friends found their warm bunks early on this cool Florida Thanksgiving weekend. I was itching to give the dogs a quick run, so I loaded up my walker hound "Walker" and Catahoula dog "Angel" and took off into the cold night from hunting camp.  After a quick ride I arrive where I planned to make a little loop and let out Walker to see what he can stir up.  Instantly he's burning up the woods and out several hundred yards out on the garmin.  I give chase on my atv for a few minutes and continue to follow to within 100 yards.  He has stopped, so I shut the atv off and sure enough he's lighting up the woods with his deafening screaming and howling.  Angel quickly dismounts and finds her way through the thick cover and joins in on the bay.  Nothing like listening to dogs work in the pitch dark. 

As I find my way through the heavy cover I can't help but wonder what my head lamp will reveal when I finally reach these barking dogs.  Quietly I sneak into the bay and a healthy boar stands like a statue in front of the dogs chomping this teeth, ready for a fight.  Well, what he didn't know was there would be no fighting.  I call back the dogs and he received a quick 45 caliber dirt nap.

Here he is smiling for an early morning photo shoot once my "hunting" buddy's roll out of bed.
