its in the making rite now, me and a friend are building a 50 acre training pen, were also going to have 5 feeders and a pond and a road that goes through it to train hood dogs, we will open it up to the public , im thanking about charging 10 dallors a dog for 3 hours of hunting and if you catch and kill  the hog it will cost 150 for the hog.  also ill being doing hunts for kids and other hunters that just want to come out and shoot one off a feeder. ok tell me what yall think. we will have a lodge to stay in and tie outs for the dogs for over night stays

Thats a good idea and at an affordable price. Would there be an over nite fee even if lodging wasnt used?

w-tate that price is if you kill a hog you have o buy it , as long as you turn it loose you just pay 10 dallors a dog for 3 hours, and if you want to hunt another 3 hours then you just pay for how ever many dogs yur going to work.  we will be doing hunts in here bow gun dog hunts and feeders will have lights on them. we are also going to put some 300 + 3" teeth hogs in here for some trophy hoghunters

Monty,

just something to think about.  If you have a lot of dogs coming and going from the one place and from people you don't know that well I would be very careful about disease control e.g. parvo.

Monty, the road thru the middle is great but with only fifty acres you might want to put the road around the outside perimeter.  it will make it easier to check the fence for damage and give your pups more hood time before they bail. hopefully if you make enough circles the dogs will jump and go to the center and find the pig.  oh and yes i would deffinetly like to train pups there! I also agree that proof or vacinations is a good idea. Both for the dogs and hogs.

Couple thoughts. Cousin has a 38 acre pen back home in south Texas.

Don't skimp on the fencing material. Saw a 200lb boar last year run right through the "field" fence like it wasn't even there. Might be cheaper to build a tight 5 wire and overlay it with the field fence for extra support.

Other thing is I have personally witnessed a hog or two jump right over it.

You probably already know this, but cap the corners cause they will climb out.

Might want to build a few one way trap doors in the fence line too.

Good luck.

I have a 4 acre woods pen and just used 4' goat and sheep wire on it with single strand of goucho along the bottom. So far nothing has gotten out i have a 250lb boar and a 200 lb sow in there now that have been in there for a couple months. I heard to round the corners or put a cap on them but i didnt and so far no problem. I think as long as they have feed and water they really dont have much of a reason to try to leave. Good luck
