In south Georgia, they have been crossing American Bulldogs and bird dogs or pointers since the 1940's. Better than most curs I've seen. Have seen them as high as 3/4 bulldog.

I prefer a good game bred pit over an American bulldog any day. The pointer/AB crosses I've had couldn't hold a candle to a good pit/ pointer cross.

You my sir should have some darn good dogs in a couple years. Just remember that some start early and some are slow starting. Be patient I gave away a very slow starting dog and regret it. She was 2 before she turned on. Folks say she is an outstanding dog. Will run a hog till her pads wear off.

You're not gonna take a any pit to any bird dog and produce the dogs buddylee is talking about.  If it were that easy then everyone would own one. A good linebred/well bred game dog to another very athletic and hard hunting birddog gives you a chance to get the dogs you're looking for.

It's just like Cur dogs, find the best and hope the breeding works.

Try to find a good bred English pointer that are bred for hunting birds on big property...you cannot walk a field with these bird dogs... they use horses or jeeps....cross over a good bred Staffordshire or Pitt....no AB's!!

I have a Chinaman bred dog and a linebred Carver dog that I intend to use as studs. I am looking for a couple Elhew bred pointer females to cross them on.

I've owned two and it was a game pit over a smaller Elhew gyp. The male is GREAT all around dog and the Gyp is just a brood dog to my knowledge. The male isn't suicidal but rough as Cobb and will try most everything, but 150 lbs or less is definitely caught!

I don't know about male vs female. Never thought about it. My main dog is a bird/bull. Got him from a friend. He never bothered asking. Had one that was pit over a pointer. Outstanding dog. Have a young pointer over pit but she's just started. Looks good so far.

cool thanks , reason i ask is cause when breeding dogos to cats to get the catdo cross , seems like they have a better turn out when they use a male dogo with a female cat !

ive been thinking about that cross have a friend with some very good pointers hunted with a bird bull female a few months back.she would range out to about 7/10 of a mile struck a nice hog with her. the old girl was very gritty. and had miles of stamina.have thought about crossing a bird bull into my bmc.

We got bird bulls all around here!  Most the time its rednose/gsp cross. Super gritty with alot of hunt. I've hunted around a few they just catchy, Me personally I'd rather have a pit/cur cross instead of bird dog.

My neighbor down the road has a few gsp/bmc crosses. To me they ugly dogs lol but he likes em. does alot of huntin with em. Says good things, they've been in my bay pen before wasnt all impressive to me, nothing standoutish.
