While we're on this topic of barr hogs... does anyone know the folks putting this contest on? I know barr hogs were allowed in it last year, as all the hogs went to help feed the hungry.

I would hate to think that they could be "swayed" not to allow barrs this year... as they are right in the middle of barr hog country.

Maybe someone could invite them to join our discussion and let them know how their "constituents" feel?

I know them pretty well.  I spoke with the president of the board of directors for their tournament today as a matter of fact.

..... No barrs in the stringer.

But you can enter a barr side pot! :-)

I've got one last question on this subject. Can we atleast hunt neutered dogs ? I realize that they have been altered from their natural state and therefore fall into the " BARRED DOG " class and could possibly give a team an unfair advantage because they are strictly concentrating on hunting instead of running around pissing on every bush and trying to fight the other male dogs. I mean come on, there still just a dog and some of them even got barred by a hog ! Wink Evil Just trying to add a little laughter to this long and strenuous fight !  Grin angel

What a loss for Gator Country.

Here we go again.

You're damn right here we go again. This going behind closed doors and trying to get the contests to change their existing rules is ridiculous!

Look at the uproar it's caused with the TDHA contest... one that has ran just fine all these years with barrs included. Hopefully the TDHA will see the light and realize what a huge loss of support there will be if that is changed.

Gator Country is right in the heart of big barr hog country. Nearly 100% of it's contestants will be locals hoping to catch big barrs to win. I say nearly, because evidently one team isn't from around here.Wink  Side pots... nobody enters hoping to win the side pot. You don't go to the Olympics hoping to win bronze.... you go for the gold!

Like I said, what a loss for Gator Country.... there will a lot of pissed off people when they find out the "new" rules.

You guys are looking at this all wrong.  There were very few barrs (2 at most) brought in last year at the contest.  The Gator Country board is a democratic process and votes were taken on all decisions.  Mike, I was not even a voting member of that board.  The rules have already been published are not going to change.

There is no secret conspiracy going on.  There was an open invitation to all hunters to be a part of the planning process for this particular tournament.  And if someone was willing to DONATE their time, they could have been a part of it.

Instead of people helping on the front end, what I see happening is people complaining on the back end.  There are lots and lots of opportunity for ANYONE to become engaged with their local tournament and help out.  Or, become a BOD for the TDHA.  They're always looking for a few good men.

I have a hard time with people who just sit back and complain on the back end without showing any interest on the front end.

Josh, if "YOU" would not have approached all these contest organizers to fit "YOUR" HDTT format... none of this would have ever been an issue.

Obviously Mike.  So what's the real issue?  Because there are lots of other tournaments that allow barrs in the stringer.  You can enter in them all you want.  My trail (and some of the tournaments) has a special set of parameters that doesn't allow barrs in the stringer.  You don't have to participate if you object.  But your welcome to. :-)

x2... I thought about entering it but now this "rule change" happened i dunno if i'm going to be entering it this year due to the fact that it just happened behind closed doors.  No debate about it, no poll for it, just whiners getting together and b**tching about it and always getting their way.

I have a hard time with people who just sit back and complain on the back end without showing any interest on the front end.
Well I have a hard time with people sending me a MSG asking me to call them so they can talk to me & decide if my opinion is worthy of their consideration!!     Then trying to tell me that they no I don't comp hunts because I  don't  have the resources to win!   Like you are special because you have your own pack of hog dogs, and a custom built hog dog trailer!   "wooho"   Am I suppose to be impressed?    That I lack the dogs, country to hunt, or that I don't have any hogs to catch because I have over hunted the few places I have.   This is what you told me on our phone conversation......
This is a poor way to represent your self or tdha or anyone........
If you are representing these events I will not be part of them...   I don't comp hunt by choice, I hunt for pleasure!     But I would like very much to show you my lack of resources, and see your custom built trailer, and your pack of dogs, and your abundant hunting land!   So bring your trailer, and dogs, and $$$ and we will see just who is lacking resources!   Then we can go to your places and you can pay me again at the end of the day!     You hunt your dogs, I'll hunt my soup hounds... Bring your pack not your buddies & I'll do the same...  I don't care If we hunt 1 dog or 6.    But you better bring your " A" game!
Then maybe you will think harder before you talk down to others!     When I talked to you I tried very hard to be politically correct, but the more I think about it the more upset it makes me.

If that's the case why change the rule? I think your missing the point. Guys that have barrs on their places can't just tell their dogs not to catch the barrs that weekend. If they do happen to get on a Barr that takes them across the country and cost them 6 hours to catch him. Then they don't get anything out of it except being screwed for the weekend. Let's see what happens when a few of those guys who are crying about barrs being allowed, end up having that situation happen and waste a half a day and get all their dogs wrecked to catch a big nasty barr, and it all be for a side pot... awesome. I bet their feelings on the matter might change then. If someone wants to groom the competition to make the rules give them a better chance, are they  really the best. Heck why not just hand out hog dogger of the year buckles to everyone who enters so no one's feelings get hurt when they get beat by those who are truly the best. Not just the best at winning under certain circumstances.

With all that said I'm merely a outsider looking in and have no ties here, but I've kept up with all these threads and this is what I've gathered.

Small world....   Just had a fella come in my office out of the blue.  He's a hog dogger, and asked if I was hunting the Gator Country hunt.  Told him that I would not be, and that there seems to be an uproar over them not allowing barr hogs to enter the main stringer, just a side pot.   He wasn't aware of it, and said that his brother sits on the board that makes the decisions, and rattled off the name of the man that puts on the contest.   He's out in his truck now, talking to them on the phone to see just what in the hell is going on...   Probably won't change anything, but at least they will know the hunt may suffer on the poor decision to comply with the HDTT requirements.

I'm sorry your so upset Jody.  I appreciate how passionate you are about our sport.  If we could just channel your motivation and intensity toward anti-dog hunters we would all be in a world of good.  ;-)

My trail and the associated tournaments are not meant to divide us as dog hunters.  What's that old saying "change doesn't come easy".   Quit a few people have expressed their disapproval of my rule format.  But no matter how you lay out any kind of rules, your going to have the "Jody's" out there that passionately object.

Jody, I'll be at the Lexington tournament next year, and all my dogs and gear will be there too.  We can meet and shake hands. And you can see just how harmless I am.  Try and not let this ruin your day bud.

And this may be something that some of y'all are missing...

Even if a tournament allows barrs in the stringer, my HDTT can still participate at the event.  The East Fork tournament in Splendora is a shinning example.  Alan is pro-Barr and always will be.  If any of the hunters in my trail hunt that tournament, only the 3 non-Barr hogs will be weighed in for my trails purposes.  So there is no infringement of my trail on any of the tournaments.  My trail simply is there to record non-Barr weights outside of anything the tournament has planned.

That means, if Gator Country (or any other tournament) chooses to have barrs in the stringer, it would have zero impact on my trail.  My trail and each tournament are completely separate entities.

Apparently Obama has gotten into the hog dog world. He has convinced some to buy into his agenda, take from those who have barrs and give to those who don't. It's called socialist hog dogging, those who have worked long and hard to have something must give it up for those who don't have the opportunity or care to try to have it. Sounds like a great government program! Kinda like welfare. Lol just trying to lend a laugh to a tense topic.

(Texasj) i call you and told you, that you are running into a wall. I think you just hit it buddy, and it didn't move. Your putting water on a grease fire. Hog hunting is not like fishing for red fish. The way to go with it if you don't like barr hogs . Set it up like a coon hunt. First stike, you call your dog,see the hog. Two hunters one dog each, cast at the same time. That way you dont have to be so scared of what old (Cward) turns in. lol that all you talk about was him. So what the man know what pach of woods a hog stays in. That tells me he scout ,and looks at hog sign.

So that means that last years winner ( big e ) wont have as good a chance at winning this year, because you know what kind of Barr hogs they are capable of bringing in ( even though they won it last year without em ) and banning them gives you a better chance to win your own tournament...

Definately shouldn't be called " best of the best " .... " best of the rest " maybe...

If you can't beat em ban em!!!

It would be a conflict on interest if I entered.  I believe the word is "coersion".

I entered last year but that was only because there were hardly any entries!
