Not to educated on heavy equipment. Can you run a back how w/ 1 arm?

not really. it hs either 2 sticks to control the swing, bucket, 1st n 2nd boom, and some have 3 sticks for booms and bucket and 2 pedels for the swing. most equip takes both hands and both feet to operate effectively. its doable, but would not be cost effective

Thanks Charles. That's what I figured, kinda my point. I've only known Monty a few months but I can tell you people shouldn't make statements when they have no clue of the details.

I'm the first one to be pizzed at people taking advantage of the system, but i aint got NO problem with Monty getting help while he's recovering. . Monty,  anything i can do to help ya'll out, holla.

I hired two guys this summer.  Both were hired on a temp basis. It was understood up front, that I needed some temporary help in the warehouse, and the jobs would only last a few weeks. Both guys filed for unemployment against my company.  I don't want my rating to increase, so I wrote the letters and filled out the forms, hoping they were denied.

Now I need another temp employee, but I am hesitant to hire, due to the abuse of the system.

Seems the system may be flawed, when I have a legitimate need for an employee, but don't want to hire one because of the unemployment backlash...

And the guys that can work, would rather draw a check...

My only experience with an injured employee, is a guy that had to have a hernia surgery.  I paid his insurance deductible, kept him on the payroll, AND hired someone else to do his job for the 2-3 months he was out.

It's a two way street for sure....

I had something similar in the trucking business. This guy didn't work a week and then would not come to work and filed unemployment on me. He did not get it. What we did was never work a guy 40 hours per week. Our guys were union so I only worked them 5.8 or 5.9 hours per day so as not to have to put them on regular. If we had the work I would put a man on full time but when work is hit and miss you cannot afford to pay the benefits..

Monty i dont blame you a bit. If a employer is gonna treat you like that i have never ever had a problem drawing un em from them. I worked construction many years and never had a problem drawing my un em if i got laid off. The way they hung you out to dry, i would be real tempted to drain every penny i could from them and for the ones that have a problem with it. Well i guess they can just bow up and smooch the ole brown eye. I have never ever posted a negative thing to anybody on this board but to bash on a man thats down just pisses me off so thats all i got to say about that. Anyone with a problem with this post send me a pm with your number and i'll be glad to call you.

The way I see it is that most folks who get a bonus at the end of the year have already earned it for that year. Since you worked 11 months of that year then you should be prorated 11 months out of 12 months...I don't believe that the company is obligated to do so but I believe in doing the right thing...the right thing here is to give that prorated bonus especially if everyone else got theirs...also, if you have been a good and dependable employee for 7 years then I would return the loyalty as a company owner to my employee who has helped me as the company owner in being profitable in the past 7 years...

Heck, Walmart pays low wages and keeps most of their folks on a part time basis to keep from having to give benefits to them...I believe this is wrong and there should be laws against it...a few dollars and hour raise really wouldn't cause the products we buy at walmart to go up very much...When there is a shortage of workers employers will slowly and reluctantly start to give raises to entice potential employees as well as trying to keep the employees from moving to another company...but...when times are hard and the unemployment rate is up then companies will pay a lot less and people will not have a choice but will have to work for less...Unions will come back strong if companies continue to abuse the employees...they say with the government laws that are in place to protect the worker is why we don't need the unions...but the big companies with the big money will entice the politicians to put laws in place that will increase their profits at the employees expense...once too much of this happens then the unions will be back...this is how I see it...

Reuben, thats whats happening overseas in kuwait/afghan.  The new contractor under bid the contract n lowered wages from $160,000 a yr (including $21,000 per diem) to $107,000 ( no per diem) for mech and 112,000 for inspectors. Now inspector pay is up to 123,000. I dont believe per diem should be paid since base living quaters, transportation, food and laundry services are being provided already so outa pocket expenses for those services are none.
Monty, company loyalty now days is little to none. To many expect an above fare days pay for less than a half days fare labor. Take whatcha can get from them. As stated previously, i would be in contact with HR, fmla laws, and current labor laws and see what the laws says, no matter what that a-hole wind bag boss says. The only down side to contacting HR no matter if he is right or wrong, is the reprisal (payback) for standing up for whats is or should be right, legal and moraly acceptable. If u need anything, pls do not hesitate to ask. I may not be just around the corner, but i wont hesitate to load up the tck n head ur way to help u.

Anyone who wants to be talking chit about Monty obviously doesnt know him.  He works hard to provide for his family and even his friends.  He would do anything to help somone out.  He has alot of pride just like any other man and doesn't want to live off the government, I guarantee that.  That being said, if he is hurt, and I know he is hurting bad and has been for awhile, a man has to do what he needs for his family.  If they don't allow him to come back, hell if I was him I would see what I could do in court.  He has worked his arse off for 7+ years for them and this is what he gets?  I think its wrong in every way in my book.  Monty, don't listen to anyone who has anything bad to say, the people that matter most in your life, your family and friends knows who you are and what you stand for.  I hope you continue to heal and if you need anything, let me know.  Merry Christmas buddy and have a great weekend!

They're probably telling you 12 weeks because thats the limit on FMLA i believe.  Check with your insurance provider if you have it through work, a company that big and any half ass insurance should have short term disability.  Hope it works out for you.

A neck or back injury ain't anything to mess around with.  Even if u think u cam work, one wrong move or bad bump sitting in that hoe could F you up for good.

Good Luck!

It's interesting reading many of the replies on this thread.

Rather than address many of the posts that I disagree with, I'll just say that I think its a damn shame there appears to be such a disconnect between employees and employers.  Seems many of y'all have had some bad experiences with employers.  I've had a couple bad experiences with employees....   Just two different sides of the same street.

As for Monty being hurt and drawing unemployment, I can't imagine anyone having a problem with that, I know I don't....   It's when someone says I am going to hog hunt and draw unemployment, that's what I took issue with.  After further explanation, I understood what he meant.  At first, all I could do was interpret what he had typed, and that was simply going to hog hunt and draw unemployment....   If one is genuinely unable to work, that's what the system is there for... but we all know people that take advantage, and that's what the first post looked like to me.

Instead of continuing to argue about water under the bridge, I'll just say Merry Christmas to y'all and happy hunting.

thanks tcolt for the money and hogs and the feeder lights you have given me to help me out  , but iv never asked for anything cause of pride i guess.  i no taylor i cant stand somebody to run there mouth if they dont even no whats going on. thanks buddy. and i want to say thank you,,,, to the other friends that have and would help my family out

mo hogger, i hear ya brother i hope you and the misses have a happy x-mas and a happy new year,

p.s . dan i forgot to tell you theres 2 words you dont say on here,  unemployment and dogo, lol  tell the guys i said hello and if you cant feed them bennet curs send them down here.
That ya Monty and may u and your family have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as well.
That word(unemployment ) did seem to stir a few feelings but hell a person has to survive. I guess everybody stays so worked up over the deadbeats in this world that wont work and strive living off of the government, that their anger carries on to the hard workin people when they are misfortunate and have to use the system for what its meant for. I doubt I will have to go on unemployment cause Im still healthy and able to work, but one never knows till that time comes and survival is the name of the game.
As for these Bennett Curs in my yard, I feed them through the summer and they put food on my table through the winter, so they will always have a spot on my yard. Lol
Anytime u need anything or I can help, just let me know and I'll be there buddy. Oh and Im sure theres a couple of other hill jacks that would accompany me on my 11 hr trip to help u as well.

Well I've been out of the loop here for a few days now and just found this thread. I agree that there seems to be a large gap between employees and employers on here......seems the hard working employess can't find an understanding employer to work for and the same for the employers who can't find decent, hardworking employess......maybe y'all need to get together and have a job fair or something.....lol

Monty, I hate that this has happened to you man,....but I'm going to be praying for you and I do believe that things will be ok for you. Just have faith and keep your head up....we're all in this boat together,....awwwww shoot, after another 4 years of Obama....we may all be getting a big check!!!!

Good luck bud,.....life can turn around in an hour....seen it happen.

Hey Monty!

I don't know you personally, but I can say from your history on the forum, that you seem like a pretty decent guy- and I wouldn't judge you to be someone who tries to milk the system, AT ALL.  I guess on internet websites, it's very easy to read things in a different light than was intended- shoot, my fiance says I do it to him all the time. Smiley haha!

With that being said, I am so very sorry for the unfortunate situation that you are in right now. I agree with an earlier post, in that everything will be okay.  Seems to me that life is full of patterns where we have smooth sailings for a while, and we hit areas that have some major hitches in the giddy up, and sometimes it seems that the most deserving people experience the toughest times.  I am happy that you and your family are all healthy and doing well! Please keep us posted in how things turn out with your job, and what all we can do to help out!
