I am at work tonight and not much happening so thats the reason for the questions.  My question is what size properties are most of you guys getting to hunt on.  I see some guys hunt right of ways and stuff like that, but what is the average size of properties that you have permission to hunt on from landowners.  I know i hunted a place up in Port Lavaca one night and we rode on the truck for probably three and a half or four hours and the guys told me we only covered a small part of the place.

Most the typical places are from 1K-5K.

Up here, unless you get way out in the country a large place is considered 1,000 acres...most are smaller.  There are very few places I hunt around here that I don't have permission from adjacent landowners as well.

Most of mine are at least 1,500 acres. We'll hunt small tracts if we have the surrounding landowner's permission to get the dogs.

For me 300-400 acres is about average.   But I have hunted as little as 45acres(caught hogs and never got off) and up to 20,000acres.

I am happy with anything over 400

So how did you guys get these places?  Did you know the people or just ask them or what?

Both... once you get a place or two, you have to make the landowner happy and build a good relationship with them. If you do this, you can usually use them as referances on other places. Eventually, the word will get out and people may start calling you.

Remember, making the landowner's happy and following THEIR rules is the key.

LUCK Grin The places that i have were all just asking around. Smallest is 400acre and the biggest bieng around 1500 acres with one place. It is getting harder and harder to find places to hunt around me. I have not picked up a new place to hunt in 2 years. :'(
