Wondering if anybody hunts a rough strike dog that they can shoot over and if it works good, just trying to learn something a little different

Northcedarcreekranch occasionally shoots over his due to hunting alone.
If ya shoot over mine you wont see them again till you get back to the truck.

And I like it thata way. Hopefully a dog killer will only get one instead of the whole pack.

I've stopped mine baying wild horses by shooting in the air. It gets their attention long enough for me to get em to listen alil.  That's what happens when you hunt sorry dogs.

Hunting one dog can really make a hog dog and bring out the best of one quick like.

I've done it a few times but I wouldn't use a rough dog by himself he's liable to get shredded or worse

He'll definitely learn how to bay on the right hog...he'll figure out what he can and can't do.

Go on YouTube and watch the "rosanky boys." they seem to do it the best I've seen on there. He uses a .45
[i think] lever action in most of the videos. Bays them up and walks up within 20 feet and pulls the trigger. Really fun to watch! Only thing is they use around 3-5 dogs.

There is a guy close to me that hunts like this. He uses 2 maybe 3 bay dogs and carries a 22 mag. I have gone with him several times. He doesn't carry a catch dog unless he is taking them out alive. He does most times take somebody with him. His best dog looks like a road map. But the biggest boar I have been in on killing was killed this way.

Another guy I know has 3 ybmc that are good. I have seen him take them and bay a hog then call them off and shoot the hog with a 30-30. I have also seen him do the same with a recurve. His dogs are as good as I've seen when it comes to baying but aren't real ruff. Look up rr hog dogs on you tube. He does use a CD most of the time but he also does it this way.

I bay and shoot with 3 Curr gyps and a 30-30 or .357 mag. They will not the hog if it is staying still.

Not sure why you would want a rough dog?

Just wondering about who uses rough dogs because I've heard of people using finder holders, dogs that will find and catch by themselves. Just looking at different ways to hunt by myself or just less dogs to hassle with

this is one of the most common methods here in new zealand as the areas where the pigs live are so thick and by running a couple of bailing dogs less damage is done to the dogs and pig
