Trouble!!! Jasper struck.....no Garmin....sounded 200-250.....other side of creek...J.P. and Bella were with me but they went to him after we crossed creek....bay broke right when they got there....I waited an estimated 50-100 yards from where strike was.....few minutes and J.P. shows up....walked a ways further, found ton of sign....LARGE tracks. Off to left, bad bush...real nasty thick....not 40 yards heard scuffling in brush, deep gutteral growl...only the kind a BIG Hog makes. Thought they might have caught...would surprise me with Jasper but not Bella. Let Zeuse go....Mistake!!!!!

Hog is not caught...never saw the hog...the way J.P. was acting and the way the situation unfolds...makes me think VERY large sow. J.P. was nosing around a brush pile not far from the nasty thicket...I think there were piglets there.
Anyway...no dogs but J.P. around...bulldog gone....big trouble. I wait....nothing...I walk...wait...nothing. I walk...listen...a bark...WAY OFF...easy 600-700 yards...I walk 100 yards...listen...is that squealing? Doesn't last long...I pick up the pace...cover 200 yards...yes squealing and I hear Jasper barking/whining. Another 150 yards....creek...deep and wide...hear sporadic squealing and jasper barking...clear...maybe 150 the other side but moving away. BIG PIG!!!

Cross creek.....J.P. won't cross (still real young)....don't have time to wait....I get to other side and hear nothing...walk 50....nothing.....walk 50....nothing! What now.....I don't have a clue on direction. Maddening! I won't hunt again without Garmin!! Maybe the sow is dead and their just mouthing her. If I call...Jasper may whine/bark. I decide to call...WHOOOOP! ........WHOOP! Bella shows up quick, maybe 2 minutes....blood all over mouth....not cut up....now Jasper's back, no cuts...no blood. J.P. never crossed creek I guess...no Zeuse.

I call.......I call.......I call.......nothing. Jasper and Bella are back out now....should have leashed them up. I wait....call.....wait.....call.....nothing, no dogs at all. I walk around a bit...Bella shows up....back at creek...Jasper's on other side. Did the hog/Zeuse cross back over? Where's my CD, my Zeuse! Jasper seems intent on staying on that side of creek and I see no J.P. Could they be over there somewhere? I'm never hunting without a Garmin again. I cross back over creek...cold...and walk 100. Call...wait....call...wait.

Nothing.........sigh. Zeuse isn't the best swimmer...but he apparently swam the creek once. Did he drown? Did he stroke out? Not hot...but no quit in that dog, and where's J.P.? Maddening!!! Got Jasper and Bella on lead now. I won't lose THESE TWO. Why doesn't J.P. come? Still calling....nothing. Will walk towards truck...maybe they went that direction. Calling...walking...calling...walking.

Called all the way to truck...nothing. My guess is...Zeuse have out...hopefully not dead...just recouping. J.P.? No clue. Have Bella up in box...she is wore out. Caught for 30 minutes probably. Zeuse is tied out...I walk away...he goes crazy barking...that's what I hoped for. Now I wait.

Jasper barked for an hour straight....no J.P. no Zeuse. I left a shirt and left at 3 had to be back by 4. Whistler lives 20 minutes away, he's gonna check as soon as he gets off work. If no luck he's gonna check again in morning. Good buddy. If no luck...ill be out there tomorrow. I'm depressed...young pups did extraordinary but lost my Zeuse. He's been a pal for nearly three years. Started off as basically a house dog.
Learned some things today:
1. I'm a Puss! I'm gonna be devistated every time I lose a good dog.
2. Because I'm a Puss, A Garmin is essential to me...won't hunt again until I get one.
3. On the bright side.....My pups at 12 and 13 months hung with a monster for a long ways...crossing multiple creeks and when I say hung...Bella was an earring for a few hundred yards and at least 20 minutes.
