Me, my pops (RedneckRob), and bro in law Alex (HogTamales) set out on an afternoon hunt at a new spot we recently acquired. The Land owner told us we ought to drop the dogs in his back corner and work up the creek toward a thicket filled with honeysuckle said "if they're anywhere they're in there." So we drop dogs Sooner, Ellie along with our RCD's Charley and Babygirl and head up creek toward thicket. Dogs working good for an hour or so hitting every cold trail they pick up but not striking on anything but with as much sign as there was I knew it'd only be a matter of time before they struck. So with the wind blowing like crazy in our favor we head back down creek backtracking on our way back in the direction of the truck. We get about 500 yds away from the truck when Sooner and Ellie open up on a sounder 75 yds away from us!!! The RCD's head in to seal the deal and just before they can get there the sounder breaks! Pigs shooting out in all directions confusing our RCD's on which one they should grab. Meanwhile Sooner and Ellie cross the creek hot on the rear of a big sow and shoat! We manage to call off one of our catch dogs in pursuit and get him heading with us in their direction. We finally find a crossing point on the creek and start heading their way. I check the garmin to see how far out they were, and they've stopped them at about 0.6 mi from where they had first struck. We finally arrive within 150 yds and the baying stops! Now I'm thinking they broke bay, but as we top the rise we see Sooner and Ellie off in the distance. So we head over to them to find a shoat (55-60 lbs) :/ they had caught. Yes momma got away but I'm sure we'll run across her again in the future.
