Got a invite from a friend to go on a hunt with him last night. He was going to bring his dogs and his young catchdog and he said I could bring my dogs, but I did not need to bring my catchdog because he wanted to work his young dog.
Got to his place at about 5:30 and he said I could drop my 2 dogs Zipper and Gator first. Loaded up him and his catchdog Taz, and drove to where he wanted to drop the dogs near a thick marsh. Drop the dogs and as usual they bolt off and get busy hunting. we follow them for about a 1/4mi when I hear a few chops about 350yds out and then both dogs were quite. Start to them when we get about 150 out from them I here barking and a hog squalling, Caught hog!! Work are way into the marsh and the dogs have a sow caught out in the middle of the marsh so my buddy ties of the catchdog and I head into the water and leg the hog and drag it out the whole time keeping a lookout for any gators looking for a meal. I drag the hog and dogs as fast as I can out of the water and when I get to the bank I relise I drowned the hog.Bummer!! We look at her stiffening up when my Zipper dog nails her again on the ear and it brings her back to life squalling!!. Get the dogs tied off get a pic and cut her loose.
We leash up the dogs and walk them out from where we released the sow about 300yds and cut the dogs loose again. The dogs peal out about 350yds and I hear a split bay. My buddy is on the phone with someone, and I hear some squalling coming from the hog Zipper has so I tell him to head towards Gator and I would go to Zipper and meet him at Gator. I run to Zipper and he has another sow cuaght, I throw her, get him off her ear and on a leash, and let her go and start to Gator. When I get to about 100yds out I cut zipper to Gator who is still baying up his hog and start haulinda$$ behind him. I beat my buddy to my dogs and Gator and Zipper are working a nice boar hog!! Gator is hitting him in his jewels and Zipper is trying to catch him. The boar is very fast and athletic, spinning and fighting like a tornado!! Tell my buddy to cut his catchdog lose and the catchdog runs in and stop right in front of the boar a just looks at him for a second!! WTF!! The boar smacks him in the head and the fight is on!! My dogs grab the hog and I shoot in and leg him and throw him down with the catchdog on his front leg and Zipper on one ear and Gator on the other. Hobble the hog get some pics and cut him lose. He was a really nice looking,athletic hog my buddy says he has been on him before but he always faught and ran off before they could catch him.
Headed back to my truck and loaded up the dogs went to my buddies truck where he turned out but we never got on anything else.
