I went hunting this past Saturday and caught
3 hogs, nothing got cut.  I came home yesterday
from work n I noticed one of my yella dogs was
all bloody n one side of head was swollen really
bad, he was scratching non stop, well this morning
he couldn't even pick his head up so I get him to vet
,said he has pseudo rabies. had to be put down.
well my buddy calls me shortly after n says his dog
eye swole shut n he wont start scratching, he had to
be put down to, its looking like I got a cpl more that has
it. been one miserable day knowing u can't do nothing
for them but put em down.

Pretty sure your vet had to send information off...Have you been contacted by the state?  They seem to want to get involved in these cases and it doesn't take long for them to get wind of it.

What is pseudo rabies? Is there a vaccine like regular rabies?

Sorry to hear about that bud.and no it is not like normal rabies it will kill a dog guarantee there is no cure and spreads through air or siliva..no there is no vaccine for it only a vaccine for pigs..I am double checking in the morning pigs have no symptoms of it it's only the secondary host...it's not transmitable to humans that they know of and a pig has not been seen with it in the us since 2003 ...now a dog can also get it from eating raw feral meat!!and remember the pigs have no symptoms so be careful...hope this helps

don't know where you got your info that it hasn't been in the us since 2003 . it was found in texas last year and a bad episode that killed many dogs in florida last year as well  .

i had a dog die of it 3-4 years ago from a fla hog . its also called the mad itch . has nothing to do with rabies and no vaccine and no cure . hogs are carriers but other than abortion and small litters they have no visible symptoms .

I've done a lot of reading since this has happen
, 40 to 50 percent of feral hogs are carrier's.
my dogs scratched there head non stop, there head swells up real big, they get restless, n will basically claw
there selves to death if u don't put them down.
