Got a high fence game ranch with some sort of dog/yote that's killed $25K of game in the last few mnths.... they've tried night vision over bait, live traps, drives/shooters, ect.... no good, says he's pretty smart.
We're gonna go give him a try, thinking of taking some fox dogs to get him up and line the block with shooters.
Any suggestions? Game warden is involved now, so only legal stuff....

Antifreeze on bait not the animal friendly either or get u a live chicken or goat. Or a gyp dog in heat and a good shooter

25k in game is a lot in only a months time. Prolly more then just one problem animal. How big is the place?

I'm not sure where Noah is talking about, but there is a breeder buck farm close to his house. I can easily see one of their breeder bucks having a $25,000.00 price tag on a single animal's head. Like you, I would like to know how big the area is.

I know a good breeder buck is up there in cost, but most yotes or wild dogs cant/wont bring down a full size buck. Esp during the fawn season.

I'd like to use dogs just to use dogs, but once I get a look at the situation, traps may an alternative. That spring snare's pretty nifty! Never done much trapping, is it hard to bait one into a jaw trap? This place is loaded with game, dogs would have to be sure enough broke to run this place

How much is that collarum? You say it comes with it's own bait? Do you think it's more effective than other types of traps?

i have used a trap befor with live bait it was a two compartment live trap the compartment you put the chicken in was enclosed on the three outside sides and like chicken wire on the in side where in the yote or bobcat looked in there could see the prize it was a door that feel down with a plate in the floor for a trigger a rooster always seemed to work the best more vocal i guess wish i had pics

If there's 25k worth of game amimals or more around there I'd hesitate on using a regular snare, but the collarum might work better, might have to put a stop on it to be sure a deer or whatever is in there could get a hoof out of it. with a steel trap, try a #2 size, or some 1 3/4 size trap if they have about the same jaw spread. I like the coilspring type, they are easy to bed. dig a hole about two inches wide, six or eight deep, at a 45 degree angle with a clump of grass, log etc for backing at the rear of the hole. bed your trap about six or eight inches away from the hole slightly to the side. to bed the trap dig a flat bottomed hole just deep enough to hide the trap and then sift dirt back over it. a coffee filter works well to cover the pan. if you can find where this thing is traveling you can make your set there. good luck, I'm curious to know what this is.

The coyote size runs around $ 80.00 I think. As for the bait, the ones I bought didn't come with any bait, but I do know you can buy bait/lures from the same company.

Noah, I use the collarum for last resort when I cant catch them in a live trap. It is canine specific so if it is not some type of dog or coyote. (say maybe a big cat) then it will not work. When you order the trap they have a "animal control" special that comes with bait and everything you need to set it. its about 100 bucks. If they wont let you order this package and you are interested, let me know I can order it for you.

Thanks for the ideas gentlemen, I'm trying to get them to agree to a price before I get too involved... I'm tired of doing favors for people for nothing more than a pat on the back What yall think a fair price would be for removal of such an animal?(If it is indeed just one animal...)

Noah askm "whats it worth to you for it to be gone" then step back and wait for them to set the price, if they hit to low just turn and SLOWLY walk towards your truck never saying a thing and they will hit you where you want 10% sounds fair at this time ,,also check the houses in the surrounding area see if anyone has big dogs like anatolians, great pyrenese, shepards,, i will just about lay you 5-1 odds thats its dogs espicially if they are killin and leaving it for the most part jmo and my.02 Dexter
