Chris I can understand what your looking for and I can also see the need for this type of dog, actually know of two of them which are straight AB's, only problem with these two is when you drop the curs these two will leave with them (not for sale). My question is no matter if I was to pay 100 for a dog catch dog or 10,000 for a catch dog I will never only have one on the ground by himself, to me thats just asking for trouble. Just my .2 cents..I don't want you to think im downing you like some other have been I just cannnot under stand why a person would put a catch dog that they paid good money for ....on the ground by himself. Me personaly have never paid a dollor for a catch dog and when I leave to go hunt its either load up two or load up nothing.

C Miller,

You are absolutely correct about not having backup. I don't think you are downing me either, just giving sound advice.

Look, everybody is telling me this dog can't be found, can't be bought, etc.   Once I find one, I will find another. Heck, I will buy a pair if someone wants to sell them.

The thing that I do have is a strike dog that catches and holds, then a couple other help dogs that catch once something else has caught.    She barks a couple times, then bawls a couple times, then she catches. Only one time have I ever had her not catch, and that was just a 150# boar. She stood back and bayed until the catch dog showed up.  Very atypical for her, but it did happen. Hence my need for something like I am describing that will catch or try to catch any hog.

i will tell you a little more about my dog ,i told you some on the phone the other night.  like i said she is not for sale but you start talkin about $3000 ,a guy starts thinking. Grin  i thought for about 2 min. and she is staying in oklahoma.

anyway, my dog is 1/2 catahoula and 1/2 pit, she is about 50#, she is 6yrs old, i carry her in the box with my other dogs , when i turn the dogs out she is loose with them, after all the dogs are cleaned out they go hunting, she will stay with me. after i get on my horse she will follow me. if there are 4 or 5 horses she will be behind the last horse when we take of thru the woods. she will stay with us all day and never leave off on her own, but when we get in fresh hog sign and all the dogs are gone she is on high alert usually about 10 yards up in front of us , all i have to do is watch her cause she usualy can hear the bay before i do. now when she hears the bay she is gone like a streak and im right behind her. and i have always been able to be just a couple minute behind her at worst ,alot of the time i get to see her hit the hog. now im not saying she does any of this on comand thats just the way she is. i dont say anything until i have the hog caught, and then all my dogs back off when i say caught hog or dead hog, i ussualy have to lesh my catch dog on a caught hog but she will back off on a dead hog.
the other thing that makes this dog work for me is if a bay breaks she will go with them but she will come back really quik say maybe a 1/4 or so if they havent stoped, she is comming in. and then we pull the tracking system and go find em .

now what these guys are saying is true about a catch dog getting off and you cant find em ,i you arent there you are more than likley going to get at best just your catch dog killed.
but im going to be with that catch dog  no matter what , alot of guys i hunt with wont always follow me but im not leavin my dogs on their own!!

this is the best picture i have of her tyed with one of my BMC

The dogs are out there and they are for sale but you have to be in the right circle, and be looking at the right time of year.

No one I know, incuding myself, is going to get rid of any dog before grain season. Come mid to late they will be because they will be willing to change out an older experieced dog for cash if they know they have a young one they made over grain season to back it up. That is the way it works down here. I would be very hesitant of some one selling a dog with any experience right now.

Thanks Scott.

He is settling in well. Hope to get him in the woods soon. Working on getting my horse legged up, as he has been turned out  since before Christmas. Might be two weeks before we get him out, but that will give him some time to get used to us.

I am still in the market for a dog just as I have described. Found one, just need another as backup.

  Craig,
You sure you don't want to send her down to Texas? I would be afraid to have a good looking female dog up there with all them okies. Never know what one might do when you are not looking Grin
