i went over in the mountains last saturday ,met a guy and picked up a pup . took my 2 grown dogs and stopped at a place i kno for a short hunt . turned out on fresh sign, dogs went different ways young dog bayed about 100 yds east waited and never heard anything from the rough dog . he will bay but hes gonna try it first . well to make it short we went to the bay about the time we got to where we could see this sow busted out from the west , she had fresh blood on her side and tattered ears
( not fresh) , called the dog off and we headed in the direction the sow came from , found buck laying by a creek with a blood trail about 20 ft long . he had one pencil siz ed hole right in the jugular under the cut collar, not another scratch anywhere or rip any where . talk about luck , now im back looking for something to use and i spent my last 2 cents on that weanin pup !

Uhhh... do you no how old this "puppy" was? How do you expect your "puppies" to become "dogs" if you don't take them hunting.?

yeah ,it wouldnt happen again in a million years  she weighed maybe 200 .

i guess its back to the drawing board ,i have been through alot of dogs  to find 2 or 3  to suit me since i ran out of hangin tree dogs . i dont like to feed nothing but the best and i almost had it made . the dog that was killed was foundation bred and also the pup i bought . she may or may not turn out good enough to feed and breed but i was closer than i was .... for about 2 hours anyway lol .

Sorry to hear that. I have one of my dogs right now that was cut pretty good by a sow. Just a freak accident to get one killed.

thanks fellers , i love my animals ( horses mules and dogs ) but i dont really get attached to them because they are just another tool to make a living . the worst part is being short handed and having to shell out for a replacement when things are so tight .
at least its so hot nobody will be calling for a while wanting cow work done , and im too busy to go hunting anyway . lol
