i would like to only have 2 to feed one catch dog and one baydog but i have learned over the years its hard to set a number on how many dogs i want to have at once because its always pups coming along from buddys and such and always need one are two back up bulldogs and always have to have a couple young dogs thats starting out. i like to try to keep a few extra dogs around its a bad feeling to have a good place to go hunting and not have a dog able to go. i have 16 at the time

I have 7 grown cur dogs. 3 bulldogs. 3 pups in training. I always take all my dogs with me when I go hunting may not hunt them all but have them in case i need them. I usualy turn out 2 or 3 let them hunt. Then turn out a different 2 or 3 the nest time. If you are going to hog hunt you need to keep pups coming along the way i see it. I am gonna breed another one of my gyps just as soon as she comes in heat.

1 main strike dog (redtick)
1 Girlfriend for strike dog Grin(redtick in training)
2 ybmc female pups (litter mates)
2 airdalexbmcxcat male pups (litter mates)
1 long range catch dog/ do everything dog
1 cd in training

Whats a long range catch dog do?
If I cut him loose and let him run he will leave out and get on a track. Last time I let him run loose I lost communication with him at 1.9 miles and he was movin!! I have to keep him on a lead until we hear a bay then I can cut him loose. Cut him loose 500 yards from the bay several times and a few times at 600. Mostly because the hog is a runner and after about 2-3 miles of the dogs running a hog I can cut him loose (of course he's well rested) and he will catch up to the other dogs and stop the hog.
