I've hunted hogs with dogs for 16yrs and always ran curs.  Well I recently {18 mths} went to an all Plott pack.  Every one of them bark every time their feet touch the ground and I've noticed absolutely no loss in my numbers.  Now 2 yrs ago if a dog in my pack that barked on trail he was gone!!!!!!!  What I'm trying to say is I've seen both sides of the story.   I've ran hogs all night with curs not making a peep and tyed hogs that only ran a short distance with a pack of plotts barking every breath right on their heels.  So here is my question.   How many of these guys that think dogs barking on track have REALLY tested the water from both streams?Huh?  I've always liked what a hound might bring to the table {nose, hunt, and bottom} but never tried one.  Lets hear it guys!!!!!!!    This should be GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

We have kinda beat this topic to death over the years here, there are many threads on it if you wanna search for'em. But I'll just say this about it, both can catch hogs, both do and in all types of terrain. I like them crossed together the best.

Yeah I'm not really a bay pen guy either, but I had my brindle gyp there that got caught by the hog  and took a whoopin and ended up peeing in the pen late into the one dog runs. I asked on tuskers Facebook page the other day if anyone knew the guy who had the plotts there cuz I wanted to talk to him bout his dogs. Michelle, the girl who was takin the entries, said she had an email address and sent it to me,  and when I seen your screen name here I thought you might be the same guy based on the email address she gave me. You got some really nice lookin dogs, and I really liked the way they worked the hogs in the pen. But you answered my questions earlier in this post. I like the plotts, but I was hoping you were gonna say they were silent on track. I don't care how much they bark once they have eyes on a hog, but don't want one barking the whole time in the woods. I know hogs can be caught with open or silent dogs, just personal preference for me and the guys I hunt with to have silent track dogs. If I could come across a closed tracking plott, I'd sure like to try one out.

well they both bring something to the table that I like . and when crossed they compliment each other well .  and for you plot guys just remember the plot's are descended from cur dogs and were called as such until the ukc labeled them as hounds so they could compete in the competitions same as the leopard [ cur ]  hounds are now   lol .

I remember when some folks called them plott curs...at one time mt cur and plotts were pretty close to the same in type...

Good deal Tom!!!  I know I've already told you and Billy did too but I want to DRILL it into your head.  If at any time Bear does not suit you just call and she won't be yours anymore, I'll always have your money.  Its kinda funny that man asked about a silent plott and you just bought the only one I've had and spoke up about her right after his post.  lol

I have run both for years and I prefer curs, but love a hound race. If you have equally matched dogs as far as track speed, bottom, etc. you will catch as many hogs but it will take you longer with the hounds. In my opinion if you have the speed on track, which hounds usually can maintain a faster track speed for longer periods, it doesn't matter how many times they bark as long as they are fast and accurate they will shut them down. If I had to choose one. I would take a fast silent cur over a hound hands down. If I had to go get a new pack of dogs to start over from scratch and didnt know anyone to lend me a sure enough hog dog while i trained the pups, I would go with a running walker or Cajun Black Magic Plotts, but I would work them real hard on running a hot track to work on their accuracy.
