I myself have culled a couple of pretty good cur dogs for being mean. I had four kids & they had alot of friends & I just never wanted to take the chance of a dog biting a kid. JMO but any big dog that is people aggressive is a accident waiting to happen. To much bad publicity on Pit bulls & Rotwillers now. Like I said, jmo.

I have always kept a good watch dog type around, used to train them so I enjoy one. Had a good many cur dogs that were real deal azz eaters at home like others said. Had a yella male who no one could touch at the house unless you were getting him off the chain to go hunt then he would hunt with you all day but when we would get back home and anyone but me were to put him up...you better run cause he would try and get them as soon as he was snapped. Cliffords old mom was one of my best guard dogs, would patrol the whole place ever hour on the dot and would bite anyone who didn't belong. My few curs now will all raise heck and all if someone comes by etc but doubt they would bite. I got buddy,Boo, Annie and Goblin for that....all good with my kids. Buddy... Ava discussing things with Buddy... Jake and Annie.. Boo... Goblin...

Had a cat gyp I wish i still had. She wouldn't bother a woman or kid, but would eat a strange man up. I've thought about getting another just for a guard dog.

I better clarify on my 'yard guard' after readin some more of these posts.
Beef is 110% solid with my kids. Only folks that have anything to worry about are people who have no business being on my private property. If one can properly confine a 'guardian' breed type dog, there should be no problems. There's no accidents waiting to happen here. My Am Bull does not free roam the acreage, he is securely chained on a proper chain set-up out front. He is more of an alarm system than anything, but if someone (stranger/intruder) is stupid enough to reach within his spot, I am sure he would bite. I check all my dogs' hardware daily to ensure that no one can break loose due to any malfunctions. Just as it takes an extra responsible owner to keep bulldogs, it takes an extra level of responsibility to own a 'guardian' breed. Not to mention.....we have multiple Posted No Tresspassing and Private Property Keep Out signs all around the perimeter.

A little advice.....
I was told that if you put up a beware of dog sign in your yard and your dog does bite someone. They can use the sign against you in court. Their attorney will say that you knew the dog would bite. Thats why you put the sign up. Then you will be held responsible.
Where if you don't have a sign up, you can say that you didn't know the dog would bite. No neglegance on your part.
Dont know for sure if its true but sounds about right.

I have an 11 year old pit that almost bit a man's nuts off for teasing him. Hates strangers on the yard. He's a big baby when off the yard though. still standoffish with strangers. Best dog I've ever owned. I'm switching to AB's now to find that temp. My female ab Is too friendly (she's a hog dog). maybe I can pull that out of her with the right male.

I have a beware of dog sign and a sign that says trespassers will be shot and what's left shot again , it kept the cops at bay before and just a little jumpy. I like it that way. Keeps folks thinking.

Hope y'all have some good lawyers on speed dial. When I was younger we had a black lab and it wouldn't bark, growl or anything, it would just walk up and bite hard and then let go. Needless to say we got into some hot water over it and learned that when it comes to dogs you can put all the warning signs and fences up you want but you're still liable.
Nope. I took all the gate latches off and padlocked every gate from the inside. A guy jumped the fence and had to go to the hospital. He tried but did not get a dime. He ended up being charged with criminal trespass when I told the Deputy he was trying to sue me. Homeowners ins just laughed at him.

My dogo bruno is in quarantine right now for latching onto a powerline worker that was in the backyard
sounds like u had him too close to the powerline for that to happen . u did get a lawyer ,right . power company only have a 15' lead way from the poles so was he closer then that? did u have its posted? {beware of dogs} Well didnt get in any trouble the animal cop agreed he was doing his job by protecting the yard. Even the human resources for the powerline company said it was the workers fault.

Then when they saw bruno coming at them they ran and jumped on my military Trailer. They were suppose to knock on the door first but they did not.

Hell I got that cur dog I got from you both of them will eat you alive if you get in my yard after dark. During the day Kalli will growl & show teeth. But Tess, woo wee she will come plain off her chain and bay you up at the steps if she doesn't recognize you. Good thing she's so easy to call off or I may be given her a dirt nap. I like my dogs to be protective over my yard but there's a fine line between protective and just mean.
