I was wondering if anyone other than myself took time to plant a garden this year? Seems like I am cutting into my hog hunting quite abit. I thought it would be good for my sons to learn how to grow a garden. Not so sure it's good for there ole dad though Smiley

We always put in a community garden here at the ranch, plenty of fruit and veg for the few families that live here. Its a great thing to teach your kids, and when they taste the difference they will truly appreciate it. Teach them how to be self sufficient might be a neccecity sooner rather than later Wink

Yessir...every year. Soil is terrible here so tomatos and peppers go in 5 gallon buckets (work great), cucumbers, and green beans go in raised beds. Bout the only thing that goes in ground is squash...it seems to do fine.

Last year was awesome for our tomatos and peppers.

yep every year . but it is a lot of work , but the rewards are worth it . i'm still eating on what I raised and froze from last year .  plan on canning most all of it this year so when Obama turns off the power trying to get us to comply with his new world order , I won't have to worry about eating  lol .

I have a garden. Have peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, squash, corn, potatoes, beans, cabbage, onions and probably some more stuff I'm forgetting. If the cold weather would stop it would be doing better.

Here is the only pic I have from when I tilled it up.

It's not too late to plant. I just got my peppers, and onions in the ground. I have had everything else planted for 4 or 5 weeks though. I just till the ground and plant because I don't have a tractor. Kinda hard pulling dirt to taters with a hoe but it can be done. I planted some potatoes in a barrel to see if it will be easier on me this way. I have been covering the potatoe plants with dirt and old hay as it grows. Hopefully the barrel will be full of taters and I want have to plant them in rows anymore.

Half breed you don't see many people that raise their own sunflower seeds.

lol I used to get to harvest my sunflowers , till I moved over here to east texas . now them dang squirrels wear them out when the heads get ready ..  but I have been growing them for years , they make good trellises for your climbing plant's like  pole beans , cucumbers and such you just have to thin out the bottom leaves but leave the stem on them for the plants to climb on . and they attract butterflys and honey bees to pollinate the garden .  the more bees and butterflys you have the more blossums set and make fruit  . I plan on canning it all this year instead of freezing so when Obama turns off our power I wont starve   lol .
