It actually the hair or the skin changing colors making the hair look darker?  Because I have a cur dog that has done the same thing just random small areas.  I just figured he was justing changing with age   he is 5 and half years old.

I have not a clue what it is .it started about 4 months ago sulferdine seems to have helped .this dog also eats its own crap and other dogs crap I constantly have to worm him .he has been nothing but a head ache . Can't keep weight on him either as soon as he starts looking good he gets worms and gets pulled down again

Usually eating their crap means a mineral problem it isn't always that but given the age of the dog it's possible and the color change would lead me to think that it is a mineral issue.

yep the dog is lacking in the digestive process when they take to eating crap . try putting it on probiotics and b-12 shots .  usually fixes the problem  .
