Night and/or Day dogs

(im sure this topic has been talked about).  I heave heard different storys.  Do yall use the same dogs that you hunt during the day to hunt at night. Does it just depend on the Dog? Thanks in advance for the Info.

All my dogs hunt both night and day and to me theres not a whole lot of difference the scent of pig is the same in the night as in the day. Just my opinion i aint no expert though

Naw they do the same as in the day as in the night. I do believe in starting a puppy in the woods during the day time just seems to give it more confidence i guess cause they feel safer when they can see everything better i dont know.

I HUNT THE SAME DOGS NIGHT AND DAY IT MAKES THEM NO DIFFERENCE BUT THESE DOGS WERE RAISED BY ME AND I DONT START A YOUNG DOG AT NIGHT UNTILL THERE ROLLING OUT GOOD IN THE DAY TIME AND ARE USAULLY AROUND A YEAR AND HALF OLD OR 2 YEARS OLD BEFORE THEY GO AT NIGHT. I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF DOGS THAT DONT HUNT WORTH A FLIP AT NIGHT BUT HUNT GOOD DURING THE DAY I THINK IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE DOG AND HOW THE DOG WAS STARTED AND HOW U HUNT ALSO EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT

Personally i use the same dogs hunting day and night. I think it takes a better dog to hunt at night, i know they can still see and all, i think it's just hardier on them. but i only hunt puppies during the day time in case get into a mess and i can keep a better eye on them.

I hunt my dogs night and day. I have had and have seen a bunch of dogs that would only during the day and not do much at night. I've also seen dogs that "come alive" at night and suck tailpipe during the day.

The dogs I have now do fine both ways.

The dogs typically do best at what their most accustomed to.  My dogs will hunt at night, but typically not the same as in the mornings.  I just don't go that often at night.

Ive, been several times at night in oklahoma, there arent as many hogs here as there is in texas , but plenty of skunks , possums, armadillas . Ive never bayed a hog at night , but the dogs do really well in the day , it really depresses me, but we will keep working to be better night hunters

There is a diffrence to me, my dogs would burn the woods up during the day, but at night i cant get them to leave the 4 wheeler, theey think it is time to go to bed.. Of course i dont hunt much at night anyway

I much prefer to hunt when I can see but this heat has made us night hunters this summer.  I noticed when we first started hunting at night the dogs didn't want to get ahead as far as normal.  After a couple hunts they adjusted and now I think they are actually get out farther than ever before.  It could be the pack is maturing or maybe they just like getting rowdy at night.

I can't tell a difference in my dogs between day and night. I would guess that I hunt about 50/50, so that probably has something to do with it.  Even though my preference is to hunt during the day.

We didn't even consider that there might be a difference in day verses night. We started our dogs out during the day for our benefit in seeing how a young dog performs but when the temp got too high we started hunting at night without giving it a second thought. Now that I think about it, they hunt the same day or night. Except they will hang with a hog longer at night, I think because its cooler.

Its been my experience that some dogs can make the transition with no problem, while it takes others a couple of hunts to get used to it. The first couple times I ran my dogs at night, I nearly swore it off. I kept with it and now they hunt the same at night as they do in the day..sh$%ty..

I have seen this a couple of times with a couple of my friends who have some good dogs also.

I use my dogs day and night with no noticable differences in thier hunting. The difference that I have noticed over the years is that the dogs seem get way more staples at night.

My dogs hunt day and night, but I have always picked up better numbers during the day time. I think it is a lot harder for the hog to sneak away during the day. When I hunt a place during the day time I hunt in the heat of the day, and will stalk down wind from where I think hogs are bedded then turn the dog loose when he starts winding and gets stirred up. I am real picky about when I will turn a dog loose. I would rather go home empty handed than teach a hog what a dog is. I usually wait till the dog is going nuts over some sent rather than turn the dog loose to early and push a hog that has the upper hand on us anyway.

Was talking to a guy the last bremond bay and he said his lead strike dog will find hogs all day long but at night he seems disorenated.  Said he even bayed up a bunch of wood duck babies the other night.  I have heard a couple of times that some dogs just can not see as well as we think at night allmost night blind

I hunt mine day or night . I have seen good hog dogs that were what we call moon eyed at night,and if they get very far from you they would bark lost and act all crazy

i think the dogs can see a little better in the day. mine will stop a pig quicker in the day, but we hunt a lot of nights probably more than days.
