Pen him with a female for awhile then throw another male in there with em if he's a dominate male he should mount her!

That's weird, I've never heard of that. I'm with SNEAKY CREEK KENNEL though, if he's dominate he'll ride her once he sees another male try too!

If you do this

Pen him with a female for awhile then throw another male in there with em if he's a dominate male he should mount her!

You might want to be prepared to break up a fight....

As weird as it sounds, he probably needs a little help.
Stud horses, Bucks, and Bulls often get the ol electrode palpations, if you don't have access to one, you could always grab a glove, light a candle and...
 Grin Evil

Seriously though. He obviously just don't know that that's a fun activity, find somebody with a palpator and hook him up.

I just went through the same problem with our male that is around the same age. Same thing, we had never bred him. Great hog dog and I wanted to get pups out of him before something happened to him.

When I would put him in the pen with the female, he would spend a lot of time smelling where she had pee'd but never put much interest in trying to mount. The few times that he did go near the female, she would growl and that would be the end of his interest.

After several days of trying, with no success, I decided to try a new tactic.

Instead of putting him in the pen with the female, I brought her to him. He was more comfortable in his own territory. I had to lead her back and fourth in front of him, basically under his nose until he showed interest. Then I unclipped him from his chain and held her head. I don't know why but it worked.

Did this for three or four consecutive days and then 65 days later we got 10 pups! I hope this helps.

Oh and I forgot to mention that it was the last few days of her cycle. She was more receptive those last days.

Oh and it also helped to have other males in his sight. They couldn't reach each other so no chance of fight breaking out. But I would lead the female passed the other males on the way to his area and it seemed to cause a little competition to breeding rights.

My main catahoula is same way.  gAY.  Lol.  But in all seriou he lost one his nuts to a boar hog years ago so I thought that was problem    i paid my vet to test him and make sure his sperm was good and he has hundred of sperm cells just not hundred of thousands.    Y'all don't get affended but the vet put gyp in front him put some lub in a zip lock bag and played with his unit.  When his thing ran out he grabbed it above the knots and held it as if was inside gyp till he got done.  Took about a 4 inch tube little smaller than number 2 pencil and squirted it in her and held her up by her back legs for around 2 min making sure doesn,t run out.   Time the vet done it I got 4 pups and now there about 3 months old then I done it to one my other dogs from same male and have 8 4 week old pups now

Good luck

one of my friends has an older male dog thats really good and he wont breed a gyp in heat either. we think its because hes never done it before and doesnt have any intrest in it anymore. that could be the same problem with your dog.

Just my 2 cents he might have the tools but they don't work and the reason I say this is because every fixed male I have hunted with gets humped by both males and females and when you said another dog was humping him that is what made me think that maybe he just dont have what it takes its these dogs have no testosterone so they smell different and dogs want to hunch on them I know your dog isn't fixed but he may have been born where he produces no testosterone and is sterile not sayin that is what it is but you might get him tested
