I disagree, so your telling me that when there is no physical blood from the spot of where the hunter claims he shot the deer and say 24 hours go by and I being my dog and he goes out castin 500-800 yards before he strait lines and bays up a deer he can't be considered rangy or compared to a hog dog?
[/quote]

I think you miss my point. Are you saying your dog can wind a deer at 500 yards ? Or,and I hope not, are you saying your dog can take a track 24 hours old?

Absolutely, he can find a deer after its been 24 hours and I'm saying hunting out 500 or more yards before he finds the track yes. Not winding from 500 yards.... Can your hog dogs do that? I might want one if they can.

Sorry Ashley, I don't think I will ever not have a set of hounds that being said I know thay run past hogs trailing up one. I almost want to try some bull/bird dog. But then I can sell purebred dogs. I got some ruff hairy ones now that are doing pretty good. Besides I'm researching a little 20 years ago a lot of people hunted Lacys. I think the YBMC have elvolded along with the pigs giving them advantage over other breeds.
We got a couple half hound 1/4 leopards, 1/4 lacy i think and they are some gritty, gritty dogs!!! The only reason we got them is because the old man didnt want them and he was going to shoot them so we said we would take them and start them and see if we could find them a home! We dont want them because they dont fit our pack. Im afraid they will get long range! We love our BMCs!! You ought to see that brindle dog hunt that we brought that one time we came and hunted!!! Hes turned into a heck of a strike dog!!!

Going from hounds to Lacy's would  not be easy for me. Rough ,short range , dog aggressive. Hunted a little with a guy who had an all Lacy pack. Had a few my self. Never had the notion to try another.

I agree.  From one extreme to the other.  You should call that guy that HAD the all Lacy pack and see what he thinks of them now that he's hunting a pair of dogs off my yard.

I can honestly say that of all the people I've hunted with, and dogs I've seen hunt over the years that a Lacy is the only particular breed in which I have never seen one that impressed me (as a hog dog).  Someday I hope to, though.

I don't think you understand what I am saying. I don't think there is a cur dog alive that can take a 24 hour old track.

From all the years of hunting with Tom and his dogs.  The way I see a Lacy is yes they wanta get ruff but for the most part of all the Lacys I seen they would bay real real tight .  They would not catch a bigger badder hog unless the catch was intainated by another dog and sure once one tried to catch the rest is gonna gang bang the hog .

Out of all those Lacys that Tom had he had only one that was sure nuff gonna put his mouth on what ever size hog and that was his Hoss dog .  I tell ya one thing you want to see a dog bay the hair off a hog watch a good Lacy .  They will bay one spin one and make him look like a fool seen that with my own eyes.

I will not get on here and say every Lacy is crap thats for sure because I promise you there is some good ones out there you just might have to find them .  Might not be the rangest dogs in the world may not be the best hog dog in the world but they hold there on the good ones do.  Yes they are moody as hell ,  Yeah they wont take much chit off another dog and sometimes even start the fight but most of that can be curved at a young age if you put your mind to it .

Lacys dogs are really not for me but I got a good one in my Bell dog and it would take the better part of somebodys ars pocket to get her thats how much I think of her.  She has made herelf part of the family here and she done it the hard way .

Not all Lacys are chit bro !

Matter of fact I just sold one here about three months are so to a guy named Willie was having trouble finding hogs .  Two days later he was sending me pics of some of the hogs they were now finding .  A few weeks more pics and how the dog was doing   A month later you could not buy the dog for 2500 bucks I bet and a month after that it would even take more .  This dog from what I was told was finding hogs in front of a dog a man paid big money for and I sold her to him just to help him out for a little pocket change .  There is some people on here that can back everything I just said up .

Ok back in the day when hogs ran free range lacy or lacy type dogs were used almost exclusively  to gather ear mark and such mainly in texas hill country .Is it not possible since more people hunt curs now  that when hogs started the big running deal that people not even thinking about it just kind of bred the dogs that were stopping hogs better. I mean that is how all breeds were developed. Pointers, Grey Hounds, Sent Hounds and of course all the lap type dogs. I think there are some Lacys left that will git it done. They may be hard to find
