Just looking to see what y'all think this might be and any possible remedies. So far this is what i have done, spray with Vetracin, wait till it drys some and then spray it with a wound dressing type spray from TSC. ( the spray is pink) This typically clears it up in a week or so but it keeps coming back. Not sure if it is an allergy of some kind, a type of mange, or whatever else. A little background on the dog, Plott (white deer blood), used to be perfectly normal, as in no health issues. Loaned him to a guy for about 5 months, didn't hear from him for a while, went to get him and he was pert' near dead! Starved and lost alot of his hair!(This happened over a yr and a half ago) Last thing, it is more or less dormant during the winter, and starts in the spring/summer. Maybe that will tell y'all something to help me figure this out. All my dogs are well cared for, but i cant seem to knock this out. Thanks for the help. His tail was really bad but i have got it mostly healed up.

looks to me like mange, but I really have no idea. if the dog was under a lot of stress, not fed properly, etc. is normal immune system that fights of mange could have been compromised. probably be back to normal with alittle TLC .....poor lil guy
from me.....who else. tapatalk

Going by the photos.....my best guess would be that that is localized Demodex, with a bit of a secondary infection. Do you have any oral antibiotics you could give him?
Also, you could apply Corona ointment topically. That stuff really helps stimulate hair regrowth, it's pretty amazing.
Just my suggestions. Demodex is known to show itself when a dog is under severe stress, or it's immune system is comprimised, so that'd likely what brought it on.

i have a dogo that looked about the same. not sure what it was but i tried all kinds of hot spot medication and mange medications with no luck. I poored 32cc Cydectin cattle/goat wormer in a bottle with about a cup full of apple cider vinegar. they do not mix well at all. it will seperate quickly. My plan was to spray a little on her while i continued to shake it up. My wife decided she would put it on the dog while i was gone so She sprayed it all on her not knowing 32cc of cydectin is for around 750lb animal. I said oh well and left it on her. all the spots are curred up now and her hair is starting to grow back. Good Luck

ALLERGIES.. CHECK FOR FLEAS IF YOU SEE ANY. PROBABLY WITH FLEA SEASON PROBABLY FLEA ALLERGIES.. NEEDS SOME SORT OF ANTIBODITICS TELL YOUR FRIEND TO GO TO THE STORE TO GET A OATMEAL BASE SHAMPOO.. LET THE SHAMPOO SIT FOR 8 TO 10 MINUTES AND RINSE GOOD. ALSO CAN USE BENADRYL TABLETS. 25MG UP TO 2 TO 3 TIMES A DAY. DOESN'T LOOK LIKE RINGWORM AT ALL.. THAT GOODNESS. HARD TO GET RID OF.. YOU CAN ALSO YOU A TRIPLE ANTIBODTIC CREAM.. APPLY 2 TO 3 TIMES A DAY.. TELL THE FRIEND TO GET A FLEA TOPICAL SOMETHING LIKE FRONTLINE OR CERTIFLEX. IT APPLY BETWEEN THE SHOULDER BLADES. ONCE A MONTH UNTIL FLEA SEASON IS OVER. PROBABLY ABOUT 6 MONTHS FROM NOW. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GET A OVER THE COUNTER FLEA PRODUCT CALLED BIO SPOT.. IT WILL BURN THE DOGS SKIN. LET TRY THIS TO SEE IF THIS CLEARS UP.. THE BENADRYL WILL HELP THE DOG FROM ITCHING AND SCRATCHING THE AREA. HOPE THIS HELPED .... straight from my aunt.. hope i could of helped
